Dayster Vs. Vampires -- No Effect?

Hi. I am currently playing an 11th level barbarian of Neutral Good allignment,

My issues is this: Im wielding Daystar, but when fighting a band of vampires who set upon me one night in the Bridge district, but for some reason the special feature of daystar - that sun type spell -- would not work, and the weapon was doing no damage against the vampires. I got that no damage sound -"My weapon does nothing" the message in the battle text area. I switched to the Sword of Chaos and did better, I think.

Is this normal?

Am I going crazy?

Or do I have to be a paladin or of LG allign to use the damn sword?

I think this ain't normal. You should download the patch for this (dunno the address). I remember something like this happening before, but then with Azuredge.

hmm. well I did dl the official patch and the latest baldurdash fixpack... is there another patch I should be aware of?

Beats me Terence, I never downloaded any of these patches, although i know for sure that Azuredge wasn't working correctly either..

Hmm...not sure about the no effect thing, but sometimes it takes a while for the special ability to activate....this can be annoying, but in some cases you just have to hit the special ability button while the game is unpaused, and leave it unpaused for a while, and it will take a few seconds to activate. That is what happened to me with Daystar and the Ring of Gaxx as well. I don't know if this will work, but try it. If not, try installing ToB, that fixes some bugs.

Are you saying Tanova as she has access to mantle spells! This is a Vampire Ambush..no? You didn't go and talk to Bodhi?

I *think* this was Tanova. At least I think this was the name of the vampire.
But im not 100 percent sure.

She and some other vamps attacked the party in the bridge district after we had agreed to work for Aran Linvail (much to Anomen's scorn).

There was a short dialogue as she asked if we were working for the shadow thieves, I said yes and she attacked.

Thanks to Minsc (swinging lilacor and his racial enemy is vampires) with negative plane protection and Anomen with the flail of the ages who did the heavy lifting. But it would have gone a lot quicker if my character --the barbarian swinging Daystar -- had been able to do some damage.

Is tanova (if this was in fact her) immune to some weapons or have spells that make her so?

I died a million times in this battle
Tactics: You can cast Priest Spells outside!!! never knew this at the time
Summon elementals (depends your level) but def. cast NegPlaProt!!
Yes this is Tanova and her 3 goons! I remember it well! Best trick is to haste yourself from previous map and then leg it past them into an simple house (not Shadow Thieves as the Vamps will not enter) and then unlesh you mages!!!
I had three mages hit them with loads of magic missiles!!
Or travel in Day light!

Hang on! If you have the Daystar I assume you killed the lich?
That is way harder than poxy vamps

Yeah, i killed the lich. it was pretty easy with a scroll of protection from magic and a scroll of protection from undead.

I read them off, walked in alone and beat the ever-loving snot out of him. Beat him like a rented mule, I did. he didn't move, cast a spell or even twitch other than to fall down "dead." Grabbed Daystar and walked off laughing.

But my question is, why didn't Daystar work on Tanova as a melee weapon?
