I've been delving into the Salvadore novels, and I'm curious if this makes sense:

Drizzt's panther friend "Guenhwyver" looks deceptively like the name of the Arthurian maiden "Gwenhwyfar" (also more familiarly known as Guenevere). The likeness between the two names is rather unsettling, even though they are pronounced far differently.

Think there is an intentional connection? Just pondering.

does the salvatore novels deal with a RPG? I've never read them.

There may be adventures related with Drizzt and his companions, I'm not sure. All I know is the books, and that they are a rather famous group at that in the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting.

Guenhwyver Hmm have you seen that ridiculus poem he wrote about it, god Im a little worried about what he summons the cat for sometimes.

Salvatore novels are set in the forgotten realms, its a shared world or whatever you want to call it so lots of people roleplay, write books and make games in that setting. The Salvatore novels worth reading are the Icewind dale trilogy and the dark elf trilogy. Everything else he wrote just falls into the pit of eternal boredom he really can be that dull and uninspiring unless of coures you want to buy about twenty books of sword fights and nonexistant plots.

the connection you were worrying about, well lets just say a lot of things are ripped off in the forgotten realms.

Wow, jabidas. I take it you're not a Salvatore fan then.

In a generalized, horrifyingly cynical sense (something that I'm actually rather familiar with sometimes myself), Jab is right. It's a lot of sword fighting (especially Drizzt) and sometimes questionable plot quality (if you are used to reading something better. That doesnt bother me though because I appreciate some of the finer qualities of the characters and the plot, although jab would say that I'm chasing ghosts, I honestly believe there *is* a nub of other underlying plot concepts moving under the surface )

However, I like Salvadore, and I love Forgotten Realms, despite their faults.

I do have one specific pet peeve about Salvadore though: Why in the nine hells does he keep saying "orb" when referring to eyes? GAH!

Definitely not a Salvatore fan. That's okay though. Name an author that you do like than Jabidas.

FInding authors I like isnt the problem, I have done 2 reviews on the board of books I like, and a bunch of other poles. Liking Salvatore childrens books is the problem.

This may be getting off this threads context...but...

I have never read any Salvatore except for when
I started the one about menznoberanzan (was this the name? was this the book?
Did he even write it? Homeland! right?)
Whatever it was i did not finish it...not out of distaste though...
i think i actually lost the book while i was reading it and never
found it...or picked up a copy since. I have wanted to re-read it for a long time just have always forgotten or had another story on my plate...and thus still need to read it...anyways...)

IMHO(...the title!)

Fantasy (and sci fi too) is cursed to suffer
from a strange fate of being
both so fantastic yet so hard pressed
to be fresh! To be smart and true
gifted vision...dreaming true!

Now then...I guess who the hell am i to judge high fantasy
seperate my fact from your fiction...
draw a line in the sand...

My Eyes are popping out...know what i mean!?!
