Not really a spoiler but I'll tag it anyway.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . Ok, I know there is some kind of penalty for messing with Drizzt when you import to BG2. I don't know what though, and I don't want to know so please don't post it here. My question is this. I already pickpocketed one of his swords. Will this cause the exact same penalty as killing him, or does killing him make it different/worse? I could use the exp for a recently dualed character. Thanks.

He will be displeased no matter what if you have his swords in BG2, but I'm not sure if there is a difference if you don't actually kill him. You'll get a big drop in your reputation in BG1 for killing him, but he's worth it if you're evil enough to do it

There's no difference... Having the sword in your inventory counts as killing him.

spoilers.
. . . . . . . . I was under the impression you could tell him that you killed him even if you didn't. The game doesn't import that information.

Both are correct. The game will check to see if you have any of Drizzt's gear upon starting BG2, and you can also tell him that you killed him.

Regarding import to BG2, I don't know if anyone told you this but due to circumstances beyond your control most of your best stuff gets "confiscated". The only thing I know that goes over properly is the golden Pantaloons but thats another story.
