Yesterday I tried to role play my way through Undermountian what a joke that was! I was using a level 10 Ranger Lvl 1 mage Lvl 2 Arcane Archer and couldn't even get through level 2 after more than 10 tries.
as I started through Lvl 1 It seemed to be the good old Undermountain I came to love, Then I went down to lvl 2 and something had laid waste to the place before I arrived. There were little bags of treasure everywhere and piles of gold and silver littering the ground everywhere else. Every chest and box was full of treasures in the first 20% I had made it to.
I was carring +2 & +3 longswords or a + 3 bow and I had a + 3 flail and a second +2 longsword in my inventory. I got to about the right center of the map and was attached by between 3 to 5 level 25 mages, 3 or 4 shawmen 15 drow 5 to 6 lizardmen and three 10 ft tall two headed skeletons. They beat my pore Ranger down to "0" hit points in less than 10 seconds some doing 100 points damage in one hit I died and reserected 15 times. they had me in a corner and I couldn't run anywhere I would reserect and then 3 to 4 seconds later I was dead again. finally I got so pissed I said screw this game and left.
What I want to know Is, why is everybody complaining about umber PC's being in UnderMountain. From what I saw the only way anybody can survive in the game is with +25 weapons and armor With a Level 60 PC.
Undermountian sucks now, If I had bought this game I would be taking it back to the store today. What the hell Happened?? Its's no longer RPG. Now it's Hack and slash, I felt Like I was playing Diablo 1 on level 15 with a Lvl 2 PC.
I now see what everybody is complaining about. Way too much treasure, I coulden't believe all the junk and dead bodies laying around everywhere. I started picking up treasure when I first got to lvl 2 but who can carry 30 sets of Armor an Drow Boots and there were another 50 bags still to go within my line of site. No wonder all the low powered computer owners are having problem with lag and crashing. Kill the Treasure respawn!
I will no longer complain about Umber characters running throug the Mountain. They more than likely had an experance like mine and were taking revenge.
I really though about bringing my Mega Umber PC into the game and laying waste to everything on every level, instead I shut off my PC and started watching TV.
"Z" Your program Has gone wild and It was %$#&^* UP and I hated it last night!

Woah... I'll have to check out level 2 myself... I don't recall being attacked like that before when I went down there (mind you, if it underwent a change since last Wednesday, then I wouldn't know)

Anyhow, I hope this is still role playable for folks with the appropriate levels vs mod level... perhaps I'll bring a char with slightly better gear just in case.

Um, I really have no idea what he's talking about btw. I haven't TOUCHED level 2. It's the same dude. The only addition is the Loki Quest, and some more dark dwarven encounters.

BTW, I have no idea WHY 3 Bone golems were in there, because I only have ONE at the end, and one weak one near the starting point.

I think the server messed up, or the encounters got whacky. I would NEVER have that amount of monster encounters on level 2.

I'll look into this ASAP--same for others, let me know!

The level totaly blew me away. There were 4 people on level 2 when I came in the front door and they were all talking about all the Mages and getting the hell out of level 2 they said that they were all leaving. I couldn't figure what the problem was until I got there and saw all the piles of treasure cluttered everywhere and then the asalt hit me like the server was taken over by Halaster himself. Never seen so many bad guys in one place at the same time.

Very weird! Where on level 2 did this occur? (what was it near?). I'll make sure something with the new patch didn't spawn some new type of monsters or something.. freaky. Maybe someone did something? Hmmm

Ok tonight I went through the whole Mountain and made it to level 12. The same wizards on level 11 & 12 today were the same ones I met on level Two yesterday. Had to be a glitch yesterday because they were not there today and everything ran fine until I was killed by all the Little skeltons and their Damn Axes on Lvl 12. But it was fair and square and then I quit because I needed to go to bed. but I did make it over as far as Greeny off to the right on lvl 12, at least I thought he was green, never really got a chance to tell for sure??.

The area I was attacked in last night was to the left of the area where the the first weaker of the two Bone Golems were tonight. But the Skeletons that attached me last night were more like the second Bigger Bone Golem But they looked more like over size versions of the skeleton solders I fought on Lvl 12 tonight because they all rose out of the dirt like the little ones on 12 and they all carried Axes.

Perhaps the encounters were respawned a few times, but the players left the area without fighting, leaving the monsters around to build up.

Another variable to consider is the new 1.62 encounter tweak that now calculates encounters past 20th level. This will cause and harder spawns to occur from an encounter if an epic level character triggers it. If it is triggered a few times and the players leave before killing the spawns you'll get big time monster build-up!

My guess would be exactly what Chewie said; the monsters had been spawned by epic characters, and was thus epic monsters, but wasn't killed by those players, and was instead left for the next poor victim that happened to come along. Which in this case happened to be TCB.

BTW I haven't checked in to the Yawning Portal Inn for quite awhile. I'll show up as soon as I've finished the mods I'm playing right now.

This is the problem i found when i played here. It is Hack N Slash and that's cool if that's what you prefer to play. I like to play it over time though, where you take a character from their early days and build them into a hero in the land. Of course that type of server is almost exclusively server vault.

Ideally i would like to see the first level of Undermountain start for characters 1-3

Second level Undermountain for characters 4-5

and so on.. etc. etc. until the deep depths which by the time you get there.. you would have been playing Undermountain for months.

Just some thoughts.

Yeh I quite like that idea Djinni, I think the server vault would be good, you make a character, take them on an adventure roleplaying appropriately, then pick up another character next time.
