I'm in the mine and have found Xan. I've never had him in my group before but I only had five so I thought we'd pick him up. Unfortunately we're all only at level 1 so have little hope of beating Mulahey so we're planning to go off and get experience and come back. Will Xan come along even though we didn't get his moonblade? Will he start complaining after a while and leave if we don't retrieve it within a certain time like Minsc does when you don't get Dynaheir in time?

AFAIK, Xan does not have any required quests/actions to stay in the party. The whining fool should just be happy enough you guided him out of his guano-infested prison...
