I post this line with confidence in this forums newfound ability to tell quite vivid stories.
As I sit here at the school computer, pondering whether or not to go to math, my mind wanders to home where I would invariably rather be. I could cook myself a good breakfast, watch SportsCenter, prepare a package for overseas shipment and have a good row with BGI. So Since I am stuck here and my mind is on being lazy and playing BG instead of expanding my mind and preparing for my future, I have begun to remember all of the complete A$$ whihppings that I have recieved at the hands of BGI and which one was the worst. Ironically for those of you who follow even the silly streams in this forum it was dealt to me at the hands of Kobolds. I was in the large room in the Gullykin tunnels...you know the one where the four other tunnels branch off from... and my party...pretty good but I was still a new player...got into a scrap the first time we entered said room which banged us up pretty bad. I must have been wearing "ode de Kobold" or something that day. Well I figured that the room was big enough so I decided to rest there to recharge my previously depleted healers so I could continue adventuring. Well truth be told about three hours or so into my rest I was awakened by the hundred or so yipping Kobolds that had infiltrated my camp and began firing those fire arrows with my own "empty the quiver" mentality. Swords were swung, bowstrings sang, and things were looking good until I hit the wrong button on my wand of fire and fired a fireball instead of the scorcher. Needless to say it is entirely possible that this battle could be considered a draw because there was no one left standing, but due to the fact that my party died, to a man, by my own fireball...I was playing a Conjurer...I look upon it as a serious butt kicking. So how about you fine members of the forum??? What was your worst loss and how did you manage to get your backside handed to you? After all, anyone can WIN in BG...but how many can lose with flair? I too have suffered at the hands of kobolds - one kobold in fact - as I'm sure you'll remember. Fireball is a fantastic spell, but used in conjunction with quality items its lethal. However, knowing those items properly is not a given. Read on...
So there was my mid-level team, feeling pretty good about themselves. They'd got some nice equipment and had sorely trashed the Nashkel Mines, when they decide to do a little exploring down south. Off they go, proud in their newfound experience, when they run into this bunch of nut jobs that enjoy hunting people for sport. Well I say, can't have that sort of thing around here, let's get 'em! Off I charge, the main character in the lead, under the influence of a potion of fire resistance, safe in the knowledge that mere flames cannot hurt me. Right? Wrong. Dynaheir answers the call for direct fire support and pounds a fireball right on top of myself, Minsc and Montaron. Bang. Up go the lot of us, leaving Dynaheir staring at the patch of ground where her friends used to be. Reload. As to what Minsc and Montaron were doing there as well...lets just say that instead of missile weapons fire as I'd asked for, I forgot to actually put their missile weapons in their hands, and off they merrily charged. Liv...sorry, reload and learn.

I think my worst trip to the woodshed was the first time I entered the spiders cave. I was totally unprepared for what was inside. After the conversation I imediately sent two of my fighters after one of the sword spiders which caused the ettercaps to come into the battle. Arrows were flying everywhere, most of my guys were posioned or paralyzed and poor Dynaheir who is terrified of spiders freaked out and let a hugh fire ball go right next to were 2/3 of my party members were fighting, slaying spider and friend alike. Lets just say that the remainder of my party did not last long after that.

OOOooohhh yeah. The spider cave gave me some serious chafing action the first time I ventured in there. Those Sword spiders ripped me to itty bitty pieces, and after maybe 45 seconds, the only person left in my party was jaheira, with 15 hp left, poisoned, and sorely outnumberd. This was not my worst beating though. That actually came at the hands of my own players.
My party and I were cleaning the coastline, heading up by an abandoned lighthouse, saving small children from wargs, and typical heroic quests like that. I wandered a little higher on the coast, and stumbled into some sirens. This being the first time I'd seen a siren, I wasn't too worried about it...until she disappeared. So there I am, standing there, and all of a sudden, TWO sirens cast dire charm on my main character. Now, you have to understand the party I'm traveling with. I'm a level three fighter, your basic monster tank. My stats were 18/00 18 18 3 6 19 And i had two proficiencies in bow and large sword. I had purchased the composite long bow +1, and had the bracers of archery equipped, so my thaco with my bow was like ten or eleven tops. The other people in my party were Khalid, Jaheira, Imoen, Minsc and Dynaheir. Back to the story. My character was dire charmed, and he turns around. "Ryaldin attacks Imoen. Critical Hit. Imoen damage taken - 18. Imoen - death" So I killed my thief in one shot, and proceeded to go after minsc. Minsc was still really low in levels and i had actually only picked him up after the nashkel mines and a bit of exploring, so he was a level two with twenty hp. I killed him in four shots. Meanwhile, Dynaheir jaheira and khalid have killed one of the sirens, and are working on the other, but since i see my party being ripped apart by yours truly, i decide to minimize the damage (i like to play things out and resurrect characters at temples instead of reloading, IF i can) by moving the remaining party members away from Ryaldin. Didn't work. He saw dynaheir after he killed minsc, and let fly he did. Another one hit wonder, and i'm down to two party members, a psycho maniac leader who shoots everything in sight. Thankfully i still had an entangle left in jaheira's spell slots. "this'll do the trick" i thought to myself. Khalid is in front of Jaheira, and Jaheira starts casting the spell. Twang. "Ryaldin - Critical hit. Khalid - Damage taken 20. Khalid - death." So jaheira is almost finished casting the spell...come on...cast it...hurry......Twang. Yup. Spell failure. By then i knew i was screwed, since i had just handed my a$$ to myself. i gave up.

Minor Spoiler
. . . . . That Spider Queen battle the first time went almost exactly as pritchke described earlier. I also went to the woodshed my first trip to the Friendly Arm. My paladin refused to have Moron and Xsar in her party, so it was just her and Imoen, late at night and wounded. Climb the stairs to the Inn, and this guy is bent on hurting me. What did I ever do? I have not even killed a kobold yet!! (Opps. Could not resist ![]() My worst trip to the woodshed was by that party of evil adventurers in the Elder Undercity, just outside of the Temple of Bhaal where Sarevok awaits. All of my frontal assaults met with a spanking. Reload. Spank. Reload. Spank. Reload. Try something different. Hooray. Does the game keep track of how many times the Protagonist dies? |

SPOILER
. . . . . . . . . . Or not really. As you know, the game counts your savings on each screen, and the more you save the nastier surprises you get. On my one and only serious game my party was at about level 2-3, when a pack of wolves "joined" them. I reckon there was 7 of them, and only two were regular wolves, with two vampiric ones. Arrows were almost useless, and trying to melee against creatures that hit you often and have more HP's was waste of time with 3rd lever characters. No help from mages either. At this point I had a fighter based gang, so Jaheira could only try to heal the wounds as she could. I was slaughtered until I started to think and used "you can see AI but AI canīt quite see you" tactic. Itīs not roleplaying, but I needed to get on with the story. If we talk about accidents, they sometimes happen in dungeons, but nothing really forgettable comes to mind.

Mine would have to be when I was reading the graves in Naskell, when i decided not to listen to the words of advice from the mage who comes to talk to you...well those Pheonix warriors thought that it'd be fun to explode in a huge fireball when they died...I was fine, up until I put them to sleep, then my fighters ran out of arrows and charged in, just as Dynaheir cast magic missles on one of them...and it seems that Dynaheir causes lots of problems with anything to do with fire.

Note how NiceWorg said
"Or not really. As you know, the game counts your savings on each screen, and the more you save the nastier surprises you get." He said per screen, so I think that means that each screen change it resets the save count...not positive, but I'm fairly sure that's the case. |

well even so that would explain why the first time i played this game and got to sarevok that he was tank hard and took literally about 15 minutes to kill during which time i used up everything i had, bah either that or sheer bad luck which is always a possiblity with me
