Berserk makes you attack everything that's in your sight.
Thus: no. |

It gives you attack some attack bonus but you will not be able to control who your character attacks in battle. If some of your own characters are in the fight he will probaly attack them has well. You can make Minsc go berserk however the effect wears off. I have never tried the sword and not sure how long berserk last with it.
I never use any weapons with berserk, but that is my preference. I guess I just like to be in control of my party. |

Using the sword would be worthwhile if you were Soloing--no fellow party members to attack--except that while you're Berserk, you have no control over your character. So, as long as there are enemies within your field of vision, you can't even issue such basic instructions as "Drink a Healing Potion!" or "No, attack THAT guy!" or "Don't step on that trap!"
Some Cursed items aren't that bad at all (like the Claw of Kazgaroth), but I hate cursed weapons in particular, because you can't even switch to your other Quick Weapons anymore.

"Historically", the only decent cursed weapons that were of any use in the PnP version were the +1 Sword, and the 'Missile Attractor' shield.
At first glance neither sounds too nice as the sword makes you beserk, and the shield makes you the target of any missile weapon. However, if you can Hold, or in anyways stop your character, then the beserk isn't too bad, especially when you consider that you can never be "unequipped" from the weapon (it teleports to your hand). The shield is good, 'cause if you give it to one of your tougher fighters, your mages will never be on the receiving end of any nasty spell-disrupting weapons - the sort we throw out at enemy mages all the time! Of course, there's an entire field of thinking devoted to turning the cause of cursed items to that of the player's advantage. Most though would only work in the PnP version. Shame that.

IIRC, if a char is going beserk (at least it is the case with minsc), he is imune to charm-spells. This comes in very handy if you are fighting the sirenes. If the same is true for Brages sword, may be its a good tactic to get rid of the sirenes easily.

I figured out a while back that if you give the Berserker to somebody in your party, than Charm Person him, it sorta works. Can't heal him, but at least he's fighting the bad guys. And when I wanted him to be free of the curse, I dragged him to a temple, still charmed, and removed it.

So you see, the happy players are once again defending their right to abuse any magical item, cursed or otherwise, that comes into their greedy mitts. It does my old heart proud. Keep up the good work people that's all I can say.
![]() *This "patronising" tone has been brought to you courtesy of old PnPers everywhere* BTW Pirengle the BNM, are you really from Roanoke? Isn't that the scene of one of the oldest mysteries in "settled" America? [ 09-08-2002, 02:13 PM: Message edited by: Lord Brass ]
