I think IWD should have included a few more non-magical articles of clothing such as gloves, boots, and hats. It feels kind of strange trudging though the snow in bare feet! It might be cool to do a cheat and add in such custom garments. Are there any fashion designers out there?

Well, if you actually look at the avatars in game, they've obviously got clothes on, even without you putting any on them. That includes shoes. In essence, the clothing is assumed. And you can customize that to a point by changing the colors of your character under the customize menu on their profile.
Where that changes is when you pick up magical clothing, armor, and other items of value. At that point you can put those on your avatar because they are something "beyond the norm". In other words, everyone's obviously wearing shoes, so why put them in when everyone has them? But not everyone is wearing magic boots, so those are specifically put in by the player.
