I met a a gnome outside Baldurs Gate called Qauyle, is he worth having? I was planning to switch him with Jaheira(don`t like her). But the drawback was wizdom 10, will that be a problem?
Btw my current party:Me(dwarwen fighter),Xan,Imoen,Yeslick,Minsc,Jaheira. Thanks! |

If u didn't kill off Dynaheir, get her. Quayle isn't worth it.

Personally, I don't like picking people up after Chapter 4, since I think I've already put too much effort into the folks I've got. It's not like the NPCs you can find in Baldur's Gate are any better, anyway (except possibly Alora).
Quayle's 10 WIS means that Jaheira can cast Cure Light Wounds twice more than Quayle can, every day. That's the main difference. Quayle would be a good backup Mage to cast what Xan can't cast.....except that they're both Neutral, and there's only one Robe of the Neutral Archmagi, and Quayle's 8 STR effectively prohibits him from wearing Cleric armor, unless you don't want the Gauntlets of Ogre Power for anyone else. Long story short: Quayle can play backup to Dynaheir, not Xan, and the 1 other Good-aligned Mage in the game [I hate spoilers] can play backup to Xan, not Dynaheir.

I had Kivan in the party--and the fireworks between he and Quayle were worth every minute!!! I haven't laughed that hard in a while. (Superb amusement factor, but not so good otherwise)

The guys here at Midget Gems enjoyed having Quayle in our party, but he is not the sort of NPC who will strenghten your group. A Gnomish Cleric/Illusionist could have been one of the strongest characters in the game but they chose to give him absolutly terrible stats. Man, you would have to try really hard to roll something as low as 67 points. Anyone who wants a bit of fun should give him a try, after all there are plenty of magic items in the second half of the game, so he can hide at the back and keep out of trouble. I can't imagine what he would be like if he were available early in the game, a total dead-weight I should think.
Actually, the start of Chapter 5 is a good place to make a saved game and then return later to change the party around. The quests in BG city can build up XP without too much danger (at first), so that way you get to try out some different personnel. The game's not just about getting to the end, you can do that with just about any of the NPCs, you should have some fun along the way. Obviously, it takes more skill to reach the end with weak characters, than with the best ones. Enough said.

If you have Quayle in your party and take him onto BG2 does it affect the circus quest?

Quayle's awful, I wouldn't recommend him at all. And taking him with you doesn't affect the circus quest

I had Quayle in my party for ages before I realised he was awful. Also he kept making fun of my Player Char for being stupid. I thought this was funny as my PC was a Necromancer with INT 19. Hmmm, who's stupid now? But he is a bit of a laugh I suppose, for a while.

I actually like the NPCs that get uppity or disagreeable.....Quayle, Xan, Edwin, etc. But I get annoyed when folks actually complain.....I hear Branwen bitching about my 20 Rep with "These are not the actions of warrior born" one more time & I'm gonna start smackin' her around! I tend to use the Quayle voice on whoever has the highest Lore in my party (in the most recent case, an Elven Mage/Thief with 18's in both), and Coran's voice on whoever has the best Charisma.
