Kelsey doesn't love me & I don't know why

I was halfway through the Underdark when I noticed that Kelsey hadn't flirted with me for a long time--back in the Sahuagin City, to be precise--and since he's normally much more attentive, I force-talked him to make sure he was still my hoochie-coochie.
Kelsey- has nothing to say to you.
WHAT!?! What brought this on? Even though I am a Wizard Slayer, I've been roleplaying Good, I didn't do anything that Kelsey disliked (the closest I got was "supporting the Drow" by buying their goods, even though I actually had Jan shoplift the very clothes off their backs), and this was before the Phaere Moment (which wouldn't have been of importance anyway, as my WS is Female). Kelsey was never killed, Petrified or Imprisoned, and I've always been nice to him (well, I may have clobbered him with the FoA once or twice while I was Confused, but that's how these things go). So what gives?

Seeking answers, I opened up ShadowKeeper to check out some Global Variables. But the J#KelseyRomanceActive was at *2*, which is usually the "Romance is actively progressing" setting! Ack!

Could it have anything to do with the party not sleeping much? Kelsey and I did hit the hay, although behind a tomb in the Graveyard District isn't the most romantic of dream spots.

Mmmmm...chapters 4 and 5 tend to not allow romances to progress. Wait until chapter 6 before you really start freaking out.

Oh, and a little tip...all BG2 romances are halted in chapter 7, regardless of whether you're in chapter 7's area or in Athkatla. So...finish it before then! (not sure if it applies to Kelsey but still....)

Bio-romances don't run in the Underdark, neither does Kelsey's, and flirting is also disabled. Sorry if it made you paranoid. He'll be fine once he's not in the lair of the Drow any longer.

False, -1 point for untrue data.

Romances can continue in the Underdark, you just need to ask yourself... which one(s).

And I am talking about the default ones here, no mods.

If you insist on getting nitpicky about the whole thing, the Bioromances actually don't "shut off in the Underdark", they simply never run in any area coded a DUNGEON (and YES, Viconia IS included here, all four Bioromances include the !AreaType(DUNGEON) directive in their scripts), and virtually all of the Underdark is coded DUNGEON (appropriately enough), so the net effect, for the sake of shorthand and conversation, is that you can't have romance in the Underdark.

With Kelsey we went one step further and for convenience's sake simply said "Don't run LTs in chapter 5."

I was thinking actually, of the encounter that Viconia bumps into when you are in the Drow City. While I suppose most of the dialogue will not activate in Chapter 4-5, it can and has happened. After all, as you said, not all of Chapter 5 is tagged as a dungeon.

While I do feel that Kelsey flirts a bit too much (it seems that every time we leave a building, he has to stop whatever he's doing & look at my butt), he's by far the most interesting romance (although I haven't downloaded Solaufein). Okay, cool. I wonder why the romances are discouraged in Chap. 5? I don't think it would hurt to at least leave the Flirt packs enabled, so folks like me could make sure that a bug hasn't broken the romance. Oh well, I always zip through Chap. 5 anyway, so it won't affect me too much. Thanks!

LTs are disabled in dungeons because it's just not a good place for a cuddly conversation. [img]smile.gif[/img] I shut off flirts on the premise that everyone's pretty weirded out in general, and in particular flirting while in Drow guise would be a wonderful way of blowing your cover.

Sorry the flirt timer is too fast for you. It's kinda hard to pick a value that pleases everybody.
