Third Edition Baldurs Gate 2
If you want to do something different with your ID2 game try:
http://weidu.org/iwg2/ It uses the ID2 engine to run a Third Edition version of Baldurs Gate 2. I have tried it briefly and it seemed interesting. As it is Third Edition it can't be run on ID1. |

AFAIK, Westley Weimer stopped working on this project several years ago. I kept tabs for a while but nobody seemed to step in to continue.

I think it is Beta. Technically it is very interesting, I liked the concept. It could do with some needed touches like anti-Beholder shields.

Apparently the Delta version is much better than Weimer's original, I have gotten to Spellhold without any great use of the console or loss of party members. See my blog "Icewind Gate Delta: Third Edition Baldur's Gate 2" at the Bioware forum:

I was able to finish Shadows of Amn easily enough. The Delta version is the way to go.
Now I am playing through the Throne of Bhaal expansion. Cleaned up Saradush, North Forest and Forest of Mir - The Temple. Now I can do Watchers Keep or the Marching Mountains. |
