IMHO magic seems to be used as a get out clause for the creation ofa lot of the unique items in fantasy crpg.Want a new item? some powerful wizard/s got together to make x item for x quest.Et Voila! item and history.
take the Dragon Helm wormsor just decides to make a magical helm what'll i need hmmmm DRAGON scales and a HECK of a lot of magic. Now dragon scales are not exactly the easiest things to come by(is that snorts of derision i heard! lol) and the sheer scale of magic used to mould shape and enchant THREE types of scale and what do we come up with The Dragon Helm SETS fire, cold and electicity protection to 25% Oh Really how maginificent. If you think of the sheer effort alone to the wizard in question surely there would be a knock on effect or at least a benifical sideeffect +1\2 to saving throwns or better a =1 ac modifier it is dragons we are talking about.I would have thought that the enchantment on this would have come from the result of it being worn when something happened an unexepected fortuate as opposed to a specified result it seems to minor an item for all of that expense and effort.Anyone else have any thoughts.does anyone care?lol.

IMHO you think too much mate :D

I agree tho, i thought a Dragon Helm would be a bit more exciting. Oh well, at least the Dragon Scale Armours are good

IIRC, the Dragon Helm does give a +1 AC bonus. And besides, if enchanting the three types of scales is so much work already, why would the wizard go out of his way to make the item even more powerful? He's exhausting his magic enough as is.

Not to mention the fact that the wizard in question cant even wear it so why would he make more powerful then he had to

Aar-Daneel 03-27-2002 02:54 PM

yeah probably do think to much lol.
J'aran the dh doesn't have an ac modifier

Unfortunately IIRC it REDUCES ur resistances if they r higher :(

Deathcow 03-28-2002 09:36 PM

reduces? that doesnt sound right

it SETS your resistances to 25, doesnt give you +25

so if youre using the dragon helm AND the shield, which both SET your resistances to 25, you will still have 25 instead of 50, because they dont add...then the +fire resistance comes after that

so you should only have one item that SETS your resistances, and the rest should give +resistances
