Want to make sure it's good for ya. I don't want to give TOO much XP, but not to little where it becomes a chore.

Are you happy with the XP scale now?

It's been slow the past few days, come on guys, the more activity I see, the faster it makes me get this new hakpak done! :D :D (fingers bleeding) :D :D

I like it, and have been through with one character when the XP was insanely high, and one character as the XP is now.

I prefer the XP the way it is now. With too much XP, your character hits level 40 quite quickly, and the challenge is soon gone.

Thats what I thought too, since levels 14-17 will be coming back to back after the new hak, I don't want players to be maxxed out and not be able to level deep down there

T-D-C 08-14-2005 01:22 AM

Most people can level up to 40 by Level 11. Now that the XP is fixed people should only be hitting 30 in that area. As EfU gets deeper you may need to adjust the difficulty of say level 13 so 14 then bacomes harder.

I think the XP is fairly well balanced now.

Starting up is harder now a lvl 7 character only gets about 600 XP fo a Xanther thief in Waterdeep and, as T-D-C says, anyone going through level by level from the start is not going to build up so fast. Players now have to be much more careful than before which is no bad thing.

Two thoughts:

- Lvl 8 is lethal for anyone going solo who can only reach around character lvl 20 by the time they get there. Perhaps some toning down of that level would help. I don't know what is planned but it may be that the transport/gate system that's under development could offer a way around lvl 8.

- The quests on lvls 11 to 13 (Beholder, Bumbis, Bane and Gryseltsa) give massive XP. It is possible (yes, I am guilty) to log on and off and do these multiple times to get a very quick level up. The rewards for these do now seem to be out of proportion to the XP for difficult fights.

On the lvl 8 thing, I find myself in agreement with Greything. There is a post in the tips about this, though. It's been my general practice to skip it, and come back through later, coming back out from lvl 10. No death penalties is great, but dieing every 30 seconds still sucks...
Might be better to adjust the CR to around what it is on lvl 7. If that's possible. Another thing that might be an improvement is to put the current creature spawns on area enter, instead of on triggers, as if your coming back through, for example lvl 9, from lvl 10, it's a long empty spot. Another thing, is it just me, or is Ol' Red insanely easy now?

I took me many sessions to reach lvl 40 in my most recent character, but I always felt like I was making progress.

It is easy to do a few quesst over and over again after server resets to gain xp. This is unavoidable I think unless a persistent database is attached to store the variables during resets.
I'm certainly guilty of exploiting this on occassion, particulalry on lower levls. This exploit is good if your trying to level up quickly to match the party or for PvP arena preparation.

In some cases I find myself trudging several times through the minions only to reach a boss I can not yet defeat. This is not a bad thing, I learn the value of retreat and try again after levling up or gain new magic.

I have a new character planned to begin soon so I'll keep an extra eye on XP and avoid repeating quests in an attempt to better gauge the xp.

So far (and I am a rank amateur at EfU) I've noticed the xp is nearly non-existent (2-4xp/kill) or it's nice (600xp+) on the Dock thru sewers and lvl 2. At this rate, I'm having so much fun building a rogue--a class I have only played one other time *ever*! that I may leave the druidess/rangeress at home to knit new stockings! EfU is forcing me as a player to slow down and concentrate on what I'm doing rather than run through and kill, kill, kill. (Well, doing that too)

robertthebard 08-15-2005 09:21 AM

er, that's because of the difference in char lvls in the parties that you have been in. Some of the creatures will have virtually no xp in those groups.

Garnet FalconDance 08-15-2005 09:25 AM

To clarify, I was mentioning xp amounts I had noticed were while playing *solo*, not in parties.........
