As part of my latest campaign I'm trying to create Balduran (or at the very least, one of his assuredly numerous descendents)to go thru the game and equip all of the Balduranic (hm.) artifacts. After a lot of consideration, I finally decided he would be most in character as a vanilla Bard dualed to a vanilla fighter.

After spending at least 5 minutes rolling for the god-like stats such a legend deserves, i came up with:

Str: 17
Dex: 13
Con: 16
Int: 15
Wis: 12
Cha: 16

I figured this was plenty (since I believe you need 17 in the second class' primary stat, and 15 in the first) and went on.
However, when I got in game, I discovered the dual class button was grayed out. The dual class function and I have never gotten along very well, and so I figured I'd just post and figure out what was going on:

1. Why can't I dual-class here? Are bards considered such jacks-of-all-trades that they may not dual class? If so, why have I heard tales of the unspeakable evil cheese class (Swashbuckler) being dualed to a mage, and becoming a perfect terror? (And furthermore, did Black Isle just forget to add "Gets 10% per level on thief skills?" to the kit description? It's really unbalanced compared to the other thief classes, especially since you cannot backstab mages with tactics mod installed- they all start the sector with stoneskin).

2. I've never successfully dual-classed a kit character- the button is always grayed out. Until I saw this forum I had simply assumed it was a restriction of using kits. Is this a bug? I'm running SOA only with the official patch, the thing that shuts of the "gather party voice", and the bonus merchants. And tactics, of course.

3. Does anyone know of any other Baldur items in SOA other than the helm, shield, sword, plate and, (in tactics only, i think) the cloak?

This is my first post, as you may notice, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, bards are unable to dual-class.

Yes. That's exactly the reason. Any dual class must be a valid multiclass. Check your manual for valid multiclasses. A multiclass fighter/bard does not exist, therefore, a dual class bard/FIGHTER does not exist.
Note: If a multiclass fighter/bard existed, both dual classes bard/FIGHTER and fighter/BARD would exist.

I'd always thought Balduran was a pure Fighter, and a Dwarf at that.

He is/was Six.

Try talking to the people at GameBanshee, they've come up with some good class combo's and I'm sure Fighter/Bard (and vise versa) would be easy for them to pull off.

You easily create a multi/dual class non-existing/illegal kit/class/combos with the use of Shadowkeeper.. the guys at GameBanshee also use SK to do such a things.
