Somewhat along the same lines, what would you say that your ability scores are? By the way, there is a rumor that Bill Gates is trying to get a law passed which would require all motor vehicle operators to have their D&D type ability scores listed on their driver's licenses.

Anyway, I would say that mine are as follows:

Str: 15
Int: 17
Wis: 11
Dex: 13
Con: 10
Cha: 9

I think that you can find your actual strength as a function of your military press. Mine max military press is about 170, so I'm guessing my strength is about 15 but I couldn't find that chart yet so I'm not certain. I do remember that an 18/00 strength requires a military press heavier than that achieved by any human in known history.

As for intelligence, I would have to say 17 because I was an electronics technician and nuclear reactor operator/technician in the Navy, sort of the mundane world's equivalent of a magic user.

Wisdom, I would like to think is can be a function of age and I hope I'm getting wiser as I get older, but I will play a bit into the common stereotype of the genius as somewhat lacking in common sense, however, I don't think that I would go too far in assuming too much in that regard.

Dexterity is pretty difficult to judge. If video game and shooting prowess (with real guns) were the primary indicators, mine would probably be an 18. However, my kung fu is not the best, so that brings it down a notch or two.

My Constitution is certainly adversely affected by my asthma, or perhaps allergy to cigarette smoke, but I’m otherwise pretty healthy and in shape so I would have to put myself a bit above average.

Charisma is kind of difficult to self judge, at least for me. I guess I’m probably average.

nimzo 11-26-2000 02:38 AM

I just reread my message and it would seem that someone with a 17 Intelligence wouldn’t make the obvious grammatical mistakes I did, but there is no necessary contradiction here. People can be smart and lazy at the same time.

Armisael 11-26-2000 02:45 AM

Ah.

STR: 15
DEX: 6
CON: 17
INT: 9
WIS: 4
CHR: 0.3

I'd say that's about right.

Ziroc 11-26-2000 03:16 AM

Here are mine:

Str: 25
Int: 25
Wis: 25
Dex: 25
Con: 25
Cha: 25

(I'm using a 'TRAINER', hehe, he's worked WONDERS!) j/k..

Here are my real ones:

Str: 13
Int: 18
Wis: 14
Dex: 14
Con: 13
Cha: 11

Just guessing really, but I am smart, hell I can take apart a TV, and knowing nothing about it and pretty much learn it in an hour.. same goes with plumming, PC's, cars.. My Dad always had the same way with stuff..

I'm 28 now btw..

Rikard 11-26-2000 03:49 AM

str 14 (or more i really don't know but i can't carry thing of 180)
dex 16 (i'm learning pickpocketing on my friends, i give it back though)
con 9 (don't hit me i'll be down in no time i can stand alcohol though)
int 20 (not yet it's gonna come i'm gonna studie either Astofysics or Quantumfyisics)
wis 16 (what does this exactly mean coz i still don't really understand)
chr 25 (haha no more something like 12 or so)

a total "roll" of 87 pretty good for a human
Guess i'd best could go and cast magic right?

Rikard 11-26-2000 03:52 AM

btw Armisael i don''t really know you but is still can't figure you'd give yourself 0.3 in chr

Armisael 11-26-2000 04:09 AM

Those scores are based on my average blood alchohol level. A big bloke slurring things at you doesn't provoke the kindest of thoughts, or so I'm told.

Rikard 11-26-2000 04:30 AM

Shit happens (i'd outta know with my int) (this is just fun)

Memnoch 11-26-2000 07:04 AM

Heh. Ok here goes:

Str: 13
Int: 18
Wis: 8 (get into all sorts of stupid situations
Dex: 9 (I'm a klutz)
Con: 13 (probably 15 before I moved to Australia and got into the weekly Friday pissups!)
Cha: 17 (I'm a Leo!!!!!!!!)

The.Relic 11-26-2000 08:37 AM

Heh, my scores are going to have to be on a sliding scale. Since I am 46, I have watched the best in most of my scores go by many, many moons ago. Sentimentality is probably why I have kept Keldorn in my party. He says something like "I am old, but if you will have me, I will stand by your side and guard your soul".
Str: 18 now 13
Dex: 16 now 13
Con: 18 now 12
Int: 4 now 2. I endeavor to improve my limited intellect, but time robs me nonetheless.
Wis: 2 possibly as high as 3 now. This is one area that I know I have shown some progress.
Cha: No such animal. Extremely high negative self image, I probably can't judge this fairly.

Memnoch 11-26-2000 08:43 AM

Actually The.Relic I would've judged your charisma to be somewhere in the 12+ range at least, purely on the basis of that note to the person who shall from now on be known as the Nameless Flamer!

The.Relic 11-26-2000 08:50 AM

Memnoch, I thank you once again for your encouragement and support.

Armisael 11-26-2000 08:57 AM

Yep, you definitely win out over my 0.3. (belches loudly)

Archmagi Wah 11-26-2000 09:38 AM

Here's mines.............

STR - 17

INT - 16 - I don't really count myself as clever because there's no limit to how much someone can know. What maybe an 18 to me might be a 3 for say........a mathematician.

WIS - 0 - No I don't have any wisdom even though I hear more than enough of it everyday.

DEX - 23 - Gained by years and years of Kung Fu Training. High kicks, punching stone bags - yout get the idea...........

CON - 13 - I have been an asthma sufferer, not to mention my dad smokes 20-40 a day so therefore I thank god I'm still alive!! However it isn't so bad now so I don't consider myself to be poorly.

CHA - 18 - Every gets on fine with me, I can't think of one person who really really hates me for what I am. (except for my pet cat when I forgot to let her outside!!)

Draggor 11-26-2000 09:54 AM

Alrighty here goes
Strength 13
Intelligence 16
Wisdom 18
Dexterity 10
Constitution 12
Charisma 18
Hmm not much of a character profile huh. Better not go adventuring anytime soon.

Alunstro Cadjan 11-26-2000 10:35 AM

str 13
dex 14
int 13
wis 9
con 15
car 15 (i'm not talking about apearance here, but i'm not saying i'm too ugly either , i'm talking about other stuff like kindness and respect to others)

Suul-Yinn 11-26-2000 10:58 AM

Real life stats before and after a Friday night Session:

Str 11/1 (too weak to stand)
Dex 15/3 (can't walk)
Con 11/3 (keep pasing out)
Int 18/0 (True as I was in Mensa until I realized most of them were freaks)
Wis 8/18 (or so I think)
Cha 13/18(a happy drunk)

What a bunch of smart-arses we all think we are!

Maybe we should ask a friend to rate us for a more accurate/unbiased viewpoint?

PS Sorry Memnoch and Relic I just loved your Gif and had to rip it off.

Astaroth 11-26-2000 11:03 AM

You all need to be realistic, How many of you had Intelligence of 17 or 18??
An 18 intelligence represents the most intelligent human potential can achieve! You all are a bunch of freakin einsteins out there. And 18 constitution and ST that's alot of Arnolds in a BG II forum! And if you had Charisma 18, you would be a superstar or President or something. Be more realistic! These characters are born and raised in a vicious world with constant physical strain. An 18 stat is THE best a human could get, while a 10 is AVERAGE! Don't tell me ALL OF YOU are well above average in all stats? We are really taking it for granted...These would be my stats I guess:
Strength 11
Dexterity 12
Constitution 9
Intelligence 14
Wisdom 12
Charisma 13

And I consider myself pretty smart. You people have been taking your guys killer physical and mental conditions for granted, There is a reason they are world adventurer's and monster slayers and you are not.

[twisti] 11-26-2000 11:14 AM

OMFG! You go asleep, thinking the world is alright and you don't miss anything, and wake up to see you missed THIS funny thread.

Ok, here we go:

Str: 13 (I'm going to check out how many lbs or whatever carrying capabitlity is str measured in I can carry)
Dex: 16
Con: 11 (I got some serious health problems that took me down a bit ... in 5 years this will eventually raise again)
Int: 17
Wis: 15 (Wisdom is knowledge, for the one who asked)
Cha: 15 (This is what I would give me, however I was told I'm very charismatic but I guess they lied to me *g*)

70-90 move silently
70 hide in the shadows

No one like to play hide & search with me when I was a child

Bachstab Dam. x5 at least, because I know almost every vulnerable spot, how deep you have to put a knife in it to kill, etc. Hey, I was just curious about this as a child !

Proficiencys:

*** Short Sword
** Quarter Staff
** Sword and Shield Style
* Single weapon Style

We use to train a lot with the so called latex-weapons around here, that is, i.e., a sword with a metal core, covered with thick layer of soft plasic. With this weapons you can savely slash/cut, and all you get from it are at max some blue points. Impaling damage, however, is even with the latexlayer quite dangerous, and we have forbidden it for those who haven't practiced a lot.

With short sword I could probably take most of you out, with a quarter staff I could take perhaps half of you falling on your back before knowing what happened. When I fight with shield, my shield is almost as dangerous as my sword.

Btw, it's fun, if anyone of you lives in germany around aachen, come and join us (well, in the summer that is, right now it's dark and wet outside and we don't train).

Chuck 11-26-2000 11:56 AM

None of you seem to be discussing allignment though.
As for me i'd probably be nuetral good, becuase i am essentially a 'good' person but i dont really have any strong views on whether good can be acheived through a strong society or by simpler chaotic existences.

As for stats.

str 10, (no explanation needed i think)
dex 15, (i'm pretty god-damn nippy and verging on crackshot status)
con 16, (hardly ever get ill and when i do its a major thing that gets me, i appear to have immunity to the common cold)
int 17, (i'm a physics student, that enough?)
wis 16, (i am THE advice giver out of my circle of friends)
cha 11, (not exactly the freindliest of people and i can be a right snob sometimes)

BTW: am i the only one who finds the concept of a Paladin with turettes syndrome hilarious?

bpm07 11-26-2000 01:02 PM

An interesting thread indeed. Now I'm not really good at judging myself but here goes:

Str 12 (not good but then not bad either)
Dex 15 (alright I'm not the most agile of persons but swimming and playing instruments requires good dexterity)
Con 15 (used to be more like 17, until I quit swimming and kickboxing)
Int 17 (not bragging here, I took an IQ test and scored 145!!!)
Wis 14 (though much lover when around girls, maybe 5 or so!)
Cha 14 (something like that, really better that others judge on that)

Well, this looks like a thief/mage to me, fairly smart and good with the bow.
(sic)

Mirac Honorguard 11-26-2000 02:41 PM

Str : 14
Dex : 17
Int : 16 (Electronics student so I guess its good)
Wis : 14
Con : 16 (Able to drink lots of beer)
Cha : 12 (not much of a charmer)

BaatoRyan 11-26-2000 06:52 PM

well heres mine:

STR:12 (Im a kid, cant carry too much)
DEX:16 (Im improving on my hand eye coordination)
INT:17 (Only probably using 8... thinking makes me feel bad bout myself)
CON:15 (I easily get drunk, but Im not susceptible to diseases)
WIS:18 (I have the will, but using it in a bad way!!! Using bout 8 too!!!)
CHAR:0.00 (My love... maybe she hates my guts? )

Im goin for maximum capabilities... charismas really a bomber, or maybe Im just fishing...

Ronn 11-26-2000 09:44 PM

Ok guys, it's fun to live in the D&D fantasy world, but let's be realistic. A normal person's stats are between 8-12. If you put much more than that for a stat and you're not an Olympic competitor or a MENSA member, you're being overly kind to yourself

So for me, using reality as my guide

Strength 8 (there is no way I could carry anywhere near 100lbs of stuff in a pack everyday)
Int: 12 (I'm college educated and considered somewhat cerebral by friends)
Wis: 10 (raising kids and keeping a family together are very educational)
Dex: 8 (Nintendo skills just don't count in D&D)
Con: 7 (I'm only 34, but I smoke and am overweight)
Cha: 12 (I'm a DJ at a local radio station, and considered a people person)

Weapon Skill Knife and Fork + 2

Who wants to play this character? No one! That's why we play D&D. Think about it, we don't only play because of the atmosphere; we play because we get to be someone other/better than ourselves.

With all that said, I'd like to encourage everyone to update their stats

Darkwind 11-26-2000 10:25 PM

***Warning: Long post*** Detailed, with alignment and other things other people suggested So I dont have to add to it later when someone comes up with another cool idea to put

I agree with the guy who said to be realistic. I dont mean any disrespect, but I have my doubts believing anyone -- including myself -- Is the pinnacle of human achievement in any of these areas. At least until I know you better.

As for myself?

David, the character:

Str - 9. A touch under average, but I dont work out, i dont know how much I can lift, so it's under debate. This one would probably vary by a few numbers up if I would take the time to actually check.

Dex - 13. Definently above average. Some martial arts training, in two styles, as well as wrestling. I can type 111 wpm (tested). My running SPEED isn't too impressive, but my reactions aren't "normal" by any means.

Con - 7 or 8. I can't take much punishment, i'll admit it. I dont drink, so I dont know what I can hold. No drugs, no real weaknesses to illnesses or anything. I could probably be better if I worked out a bit more, the potential is there i'm sure.

Int - 13. This one is hard to judge; i haven't taken any tests, so whatever score I would get there might vary things. But I observe people around me, and many, many people do incredibly stupid things on a constant basis. This leads me to believe that this is normal. Since I dont, I'm above normal. Easy conclusion I'm smart, but i'm not a genius, I dont think.

Wis - 15. How does one judge wisdom? I dont pick fights with people who could obviously mop the floor with me. My con isn't high, remember? Common sense, too, influences this. I can judge relatively accurately when is a good time to stop talking because it's going to cause trouble.. I've seen what alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes do to people, so I dont do them. Thats wise, isn't it? For someone at my age (19, college student) not to be in any of those 3 things is something. Back to what I said about int ... If the majority of people are doing stupid things, it's also wise, as well as smart, not to join them.

Cha - 12. Charisma isn't just a judge of looks, it's also "reaction". I may be average in looks, but I get generally good reactions from people. Nobody hates me. Despite the fact that i'm rambling on now, I hope that none of you hold that against me

Alignment : Chaotic neutral with good tendencies. I actually took a test for this! I forget the web site, but you answered questions and it cranked it out. I think it's accurate. Not "insane" (None of the chaotic neutral characters in any of the Baldur's Gate games were)... They just do their own thing... live by their own whim, like I do. With tendencies to do the right thing when the decision calls for it. "Good" and "Evil" are relative.

Weapon proficiencies:
Quarter staff - ***. I've trained quite a bit, and for most purposes I dont make mistakes, though there is still alot for me to learn.
Knife - *
Short sword - *
Long sword - *
Long bow - *

Quarterstaff is the best weapon type in my opinion. A crushing weapon is NOT weaker then a slashing weapon when used properly. And a properly used quarterstaff can swing faster then any sword can by far But I do know how to use fairly well the other 4 skills.

Class - This is hard I'd like to pretend i'm a mage, but in real life, thats not possible. There isn't much of a parallel to any job I can think of, least of all Web Designer. I would guess rogue, though. I'm a sneaky, in-the-shadows kind of person. I've done some hacking (shh), but though I can, I never found much of a use to it. I'm not the kind of person who likes to piss people off.

Backstab damage - 3x, I know pressure points and weak points well, but not EVERY point.

Hide in shadows - 50
Move while hidden - 40
Pick pocket - 10
Pick lock - 5
Detect illusion - 35
Set trap - 60.. Honest
Detect trap - 35 (good at setting, not-so-good at finding.. Never stepped in my own trap though!)

I'm sorry for the length of this -- I had a lot of spare time, and I tend to go gung-ho when the creative mood strikes me, and thinking of myself as a character peaked my interest.

To the person who said most peoples stats were 8-12, you're generally correct, but remember, you can be above average without being olympic material. Theres a vast difference between 12 and 18 still. And the particularly sickly can be below normal without being on the verge of death.

Thats all, I swear!

David/

"Mortality only gets in the way! Be a god!"

ironfist 11-26-2000 10:35 PM

I think my stats are :

Str 8(I cant carry more than 25 kg's whole day long)
Int 13(third-year physics student)
Wis 10(Average, just 21 yet)
Dex 10(Average accuracy and reaction)
Con 9(little lazy)
Cha 10(Average, havent meet anyone who really "dislikes" me yet)

Chaotic Good alignment
Unarmed combat style

So I am a very common person...

Neal 11-27-2000 12:22 AM

Hmmm... Lemme see here....

STR: 9 (yup, I couldn't carry 100lbs. for long)
DEX: 18 (years of fencing)
CON: 15 (pretty good, I spose)
INT: 16 (I can program in quite a few languages)
WIS: 4 (maybe some day I'll have some)
CHA: 15 (somewhat of a leader)

Short Sword: **** (8 years of fencing lessons)
Single Weapon Style: **

Gotta be Lawful Neutral...Just mind my own buisness....

Looks like a thief.... or a bard... yeah a bard.. a blade in fact...

The.Relic 11-27-2000 12:26 AM

Actually Astaroth, you might be surprised. Some of us had very grueling lives and were required to stress our physical developement above anything else. I have no doubt that there are quite a few of us computer wankers who were and or still are extremely strong physically and have excellent dexterity.
I have always had an exceptional constitution. For example, about 15 years ago I spent 9 1/2 hours in an emergency room with second and third degree burns over 25% of my body. As most will know infection is the primary cause of extended hospital stays. To the doctors amazement and my insistence, I was released the next day with no sign of infection whatsoever, and never developed any. Despite the prognosis for extensive skin grafting, I ended up only needing one on the underside of my left arm. I have very few visible scars from that experience. Every time I visited my doctor he was amazed stating, "I have never seen anyones body heal like yours>\".
You will note that my intelligence and wisdom levels were quite low, and I listed my charisma level as virtually non-existent.
I have no doubt that some of the stats are inflated, but I also believe that many are being quite honest.

Viridi 11-27-2000 12:43 AM

Strength: 8 - 10 (not all that impressive in the strength department )
Intelligence: 14 - 15 (considering that most of the people I know aren't all that intelligent, IMO, I am giving myself an above avg. score )
Wisdom: 8 (young)
Con: 8 (Asthma, allergies, and the occassional bouts with strep lower this )
Charisma: 10 (avg...)
Dexterity: 11 (depends on what you call dexterity... not the fastest person, but I have above average reaction times.... when I'm fully awake anyways )

Larry 11-27-2000 01:09 AM

Str: 11 (depends on my anger ratio, as well)
Int: 12 (I like to use big words, that confuse many)
Wis: 16 (Common sense and good judgement)
Dex: 17 (I am a drummer...I play drums...fast...)
Con: 16 (says my wife!)
Cha: 17 (I usually can get what I want, by my cuteness !)

Armisael 11-27-2000 02:38 AM

I thought I was pretty honest and realistic. My whole life is like one big Friday night special.

Rikard 11-27-2000 04:15 AM

Alrighht i'll be a bit more realistic
str 4 (can't even really carry me ol'school bag)
dex 13 still say my accuracy is pretty good and my agility is even better
con 4 ehm well now you all know why i don't fight
int 15 still this is a number to come but hell i think that Chemestry is easy whilest all the others in my school (which is Gymnasium where you learn latin and shit) think i damn hard
wis 12 I mean i'm a selfproclaimed communist you have to be smart to do that
chr 18 no better looking guy than me lol no it's more like 8 or so coz people find me to be to smart or something

BTW i don't think int 18 is the max humans can get but it's max the game gives you
If you look at some of the NPC's they have higher numbers right
althuogh a 18 strenght means you all can go and fight dragons

Mantis 11-27-2000 07:42 AM

hmmm, my real life ability scores.
well here it goes, i think i'll have to be generous on myself a bit here:

str: 13 - geez, i dunno how minsc carries 300 pounds
con: 14 - fitness levels aren't supreme but i'm getting there
dex: 15 - I do learn kung fu, so that probably helps!
int: 15 - I'm currenlty doing maths methods and specialist maths for my VCE (yr 12/senior year for all you yanks/europeans/etc.)
wis: 12 - i have time
cha: 15 - what can i say

geez, thats terrible! how does minsc do it?? i probably have the stats of a goblin!!

Armisael 11-27-2000 08:06 AM

No, goblins can use composite longbows (strength requirement eighteen). : P

Rikard 11-27-2000 08:15 AM

you are stronger then a fire elemant if you have str 10 so goblins are stronger then fire element and mind flayers?

Armisael 11-27-2000 09:05 AM

Uh... lesser fire elementals have 19 strength. Summoned regular-size fire elementals (depending on their hit dice) have between 19 and 24 strength.

spludge 11-27-2000 10:49 AM
