Might contain spoilers if you haven't seen episodes IV, V and VI yet.
* * * * How come Jedi's like Yoda, Obi Wan and Annakin skywalker turn into some kind of spirits when they die while the other jedi's just die the normal way??? Is it because they are more powerfull? Or perhaps because they still have a role to play in the fate of the universe? [ 06-02-2002, 06:52 AM: Message edited by: Dreamer128 ] |
As far as I know, Jedis do die like that, but then they didn't emphasize on the other Jedis and how they died.. or did they show other Jedis who died normally?
|
Hm, I think the other jedi's died (spoiler, spoiler) when their ship was shot down.
But how about the Jedi's that died in episode's one and two? Like Qui'jon?(spelling) |
I read somewere... (don't rememeber were) that only "great jedis" can disappear and and it takes lots of training in the force...
|
Hmm...one of those inconsistencies in the Star Wars universe (IMHO). First it is the disappearing corpes then it is the mediclorians(?) thing. I don't recall Yoda or Obiwan talking about those stinking mediclorians(?) in episode 4, 5 and 6. Bummer.
And how on earth did the mediclorians(?) impregnate Anakin's mother in the first place? [ 06-04-2002, 03:10 AM: Message edited by: Paladin2000 ] |
AFAIK, the people who were killed when their plains where shot down in Episodes 4,5, and 6 were not Jedi. In Episode 4, there are only 2 Jedi- Obi Wan and Darth Vader. In Episode 5, we add Yoda to the list. In Episode 6, Luke is now a full Jedi so we add him. Anakin dies, and becomes a spirit. So; the three Jedi that died through these episodes (Namely Yoda, Obi Wan, and Vader) became spirits. I haven`t seen Episode 2 yet, so i`m not sure if QuiGon becomes a spirit; if he doesn`t there`s probably still a way to explain it.

As for how they impregnated Anakin`s mother- they didn`t. We were told something about the father in Ep 1; I can`t remember exactly what. I *think* it was something along the lines of he died shortly after Anakin was born, but don`t quote me on that. |
I've heard rumors the spirit thing is going to be addressed in episode 3, one of the possible conclusions I've come to was that Qui-Gon was a clone himself, and that as such his essence was diruptive to the force (one reason why the clones were grown so slowly as opposed to a few months, the disruption in the force caused by it made early clones go insane) and kept him from merging completely, it could also have to do with the level of ones mastery of the force, to merge with it and become one with the force a jedi would need to be focused on the force at the moment of his death, which with Qui-Gon in combat against a powerful Sith lord, he wouldn't have been likely to attain that inner peace, where Obi-wan in episode 4 had spent years in isolation, attuning himself to the force, as had Yoda.

Could be possible. I don't know if anyone recalled Obi's death, but he looked at Luke, smilled, and then allowed himself to be cut down by Vader!

There was an explanation - or at least an explanation IMPLIED - in the books... Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy. His take on this whole ghost-body business was that a Jedi could 'attach' his spirit to another Jedi if he could mentally prepare himself for it on the moment of death. Hence, Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin all manage to appear to Luke because they died more or less at peace, whereas Qui-Gon and the Jedi in Ep2 are too busy concentrating on Jedi combat techniques.
This whole thing isn't permanent, however - the spirits attached to Luke faded away and became one with the Force in time. As Yoda says, after Luke expresses dismay at the death of his master - 'Strong am I in the Force; but not that strong.' Seems fairly watertight... |
I think Yoda was talking about living forever, right before he said what he did, Luke said you can't die. So Yoda was referring to not being strong enough in the force to live forever.
MidiChlorians, were not really important in 4, 5, 0r 6 therefore not mentioned. What I want to know Is where is the grave marker for Shmi, in EP 4?? |
I hate to tell you this but that stupid medichlorians thing isn't important in any of the other movies either.
|
You can almost HEAR Lucas' voice, hidden amongst the Ep2 soundtrack like a subliminal message: 'Forget about Midichlorians! Forget I ever made them up! They were a silly idea! I'm sorry!'
Huzzah, I say! The Force makes so much more SENSE when we haven't a clue what it is. |
Yea, we can only hope that Midichlorians were just a 'brain fart' by Lucas.
|
Midichlorians just provided a way to identify Anakin as being the "one who will bring balance to the force". What else was there to go on? "Hey this kid has to be the one! He won a pod race!"
A couple inconsistencies I've noticed since taking another look at episodes 4 and 5: In episode 4, Obi-Wan doesn't act like he recognizes R2 or C3PO. Even says something like not ever remebering ever owning a droid... what about R4? In episode 5, Obi-Wan's spirit says something about Yoda having been his Master... what about QuiGon? |
Yoda was the elder jedi on the counsel having lived for around 850(IIRC) years at the point, and if you saw the younglings part of episode two then yes yoda was kenobi's master, as he was master to all the jedi who were either taught in his classes or who were lower ranking on the jedi counsel.
|
Hmmm... I guess Yoda was confused when he said something about "there are always TWO a master and an apprentice" in episode one when referring to not knowing who Darth Maul's master might be.
Hey, someone tell Yoda he's wrong an apprentice can have multiple masters so he needs to shut his ugly green pie-hole. |

As for Qui-Gon, oh yes, that's a LOT of help for Luke, isn't it? Obi-Wan: "You must go to the Naboo system... there you will visit the tomb of Qui-Gon! The Jedi Master who instructed me." Luke: "And do... what? Will he teach me about the Force?" Obi-Wan: "Um... no, he's dead. Good point. Well, try Dagobah. There you will meet with Yoda! Another Jedi Master who..." |
