What is your 1. most favorite, and 2. most despised monster?
Mine...

1. favorite is ogre ("Me will crush you! Crush you to goo!")
lol...
2. most despised is ogre mage (MASSIVE superiority complex).

Firestormalpha 09-12-2003 08:21 PM

You don't like to make things easy do you? Ok I have 2 favorites, so there!!
Favorite(s):
1.Ogre Mage (the only remotely challenging creature in BG1 - the ToTSC)
2.Gibberlings (and most other small critters that charge blindly to their own demise)

Most disliked? Umm.... Sirens (2 words: Dire Charm)

Faceman 09-13-2003 05:54 AM

Well I like the fights against human parties best but if it HAS to be a monster

favorite: Ankheg - good fight, good loot
despised: Basilisk - aaaaaaaaaaaaah not petrified again

RoSs_bg2_rox 09-13-2003 08:08 AM

I think i have to agree with Faceman about the basilisks. I dont know what my most fav is but Basilisks are just F*ckin annoyin!!!!! and then u kill like 5 and find that one of them dropped a scroll of protection from petrification. Nice!!

GodzGift 09-13-2003 08:40 AM

i have a few favorites because of what they say when they attack:
Xvarts-"Attack"
Dopplegangers-"it is useless to resist" and "your time is done"
Gibberlings-cause it's funny watching them run on all fours like an ape

least favorite:
basalisks
ghasts
phase spiders(why cant they stay in one spot!LOL)

Silversten 09-13-2003 10:13 AM

Favorite is sword spider. How cool are they.
Most disliked is definately either basilisk or siren. I can't decide whether dire charm or petrification is worse

Ares 09-13-2003 06:43 PM

Fav - Basilisks - Great exp, fun to kill, and they look cool ^_^

Least Fav - Wolves - I dont like hurting the wolves :(

teardropmina 09-13-2003 07:06 PM

well, for me,
Greater Basilisk is both favorite and despised,.
favorite for it gives healthy and easy XP, despised for if taken its petrifying ability away (one lvl 2 mage spell can take care of that), it's nothing, yet killing it gives 7000 XP!!!! Ankheg is much tougher to kill, but how much XP you get?

a side note, the most feared for me, the wolves just outside the candlekeep.

Basilisks are easy kills IF you know they're there. IF I do I like them: cast PfP and charge but what annoys me is when I wander around minding my own business and suddenly Minsc is a statue :D Being ambushed by a basilisk is not realy extra nice :D

ok...after the first encounter with them, you'll know when they're around...basilisks make certain unique sound, it's loud and clear while they're still out of sight. Whenever I heard the sound, pfp, and go haunting for easy and healthy XP :D

Sword Spiders are mean in BG1, they are fast and hit hard. Pity they are so easy in BG2, Siren's, I hit with my bow and arrows. Basilisks I think most can agree are one of the hardest in the game, some bosses are easy than them (and these include some of the ones in TotSC like the werewolves and wolfweres.
Favourite monster is probably the Ghouls they are easy from long range. I hate Sword spiders though, pity you couldn't include BG2 monsters as prefered and hated. If so I would go for drow as liked, and despised with those mindflayers

InsaneBane 09-15-2003 07:42 AM

Favorits:

Sirens, Flesh Golems, Ankhegs, Basillisks etc. (anything that put up a good fight, gives good XP and is easy to hit). If you hit the Sirens with a lot of 'small' quick blows (ie. magic missiles, arrows and sling bullets), they often ruin their dire charm spells.

I dislike:
Kobolds and skeletons: Low XP, while they often take long time to get rid of. Especially if you get swarmed, and your mages suddenly have to engage in melee combat (-or if the skeletons/kobolds are targeting one of your low HP NPC's with ranged attacks)

Basilisk's, Sirens, and Flesh Golems are fav's because all of them are challenging and put up large amount of xp points when you kill them. Also, none are really that tough when you learn the right tactic to use against them.
Most annoying,, easy.. Kobolds, including commando's because of very low xp points compared with initial "Bow" damage they can cause if they ambush you. Damage not that serious unless you get ambushed by a lot of them but annoying as hell.

moiraine sedai 09-20-2003 11:27 AM

My favourite monster would be the hobgoblins. They're so pathetic, and I like the way they just fall over when they die.

I agree with Ares; I don't like killing the wolves. Hey. It's not their fault they're hungry. I try and charm them with my ranger and get them to follow me. Failing that, I kill them.

Yeah and you get that occasional ambush by Lion's Way at the start and the kobold hits a mage, dead mage and annoyed person

NiceWorg 09-22-2003 07:31 AM

Favourites are Ogres and Phase Spiders.
Most despised have to be Basilisks and Skeletons (the tougher ones, been a while since I last played).

pritchke 09-22-2003 12:59 PM

I love the Greater Basilisk great experience and you feel like a great hunter preparing to kill the Basilisk. I role-play and go out on Basilisk hunts stacking up on protection from petrifaction.

Most annoying and feared Greater Wyverns Poison, must run, uggh! Actually Ettercaps are pretty annoying as well.

Dispised: Kobolds(kill one, and get this reaction from the others)

Kobold: Morale Failure-Running/berserk

AARGH!!! the bloody cowards, man the firewine bridge was a traumatic experience! try following a hundered running kobolds(which im sure most of you have) in those god-forsaken-corridors, and stay sane!!!

CheeseMan 09-25-2003 04:44 PM

I have to agree with silversten about the spiders. The funnest fight i ever had was when I was soloing a ranger and I came to that area where there's like ten spiders, i think its in larswood or somewhere around there. That is a tough battle when you solo. Least favorite is skeletons, they always attack dynaheir for some reason, and arrows only do 1 damage...pretty annoying.

Zarr 09-25-2003 05:22 PM

Favorite: I love slaughtering those pathetic Xvarts.
Dispised: Bears. Try killing one straight out of Candlekeep ARGHHHHH!!

Ominae 09-25-2003 11:21 PM

Apparently there is a Tarrasque in the game somewhere that there is a 1000 to 1 chance of seeing if you play it, (tarrasque is a huge (leave now please) one and only creature that has to be taken down to -30 hit points before it dies, and gives 50,000 exp, has -9 ac, - godknows how much THACO and has thousands of gems encrusted into its belly), if thats true, then it would be.

ive seen a picture of it in my monsters manual for the original D&D, its (rather quite) wicked!

But from what ive actually seen, Dopplegangers, Revenant, Sword Spiders and those death knight thingees (floating helmet with the flaming sword that the guy in the the cloakwood mines summons) would have to be my favourite

most hated

Skeletons (they just had to give them glowing (arguably homosexual) red eyes with didn't they!)
Mustard jelly (im always scared of being slowed and poisoned when eating hotdogs)

Ominae, this is a family oriented forum, please refrain from using obscenities or a mod will speak to you.

Ominae 09-26-2003 01:05 AM

sorry bro

Raistlin Majere 09-28-2003 02:49 PM

A Tarrasque, Ominae? LOL! like a lvl. 7 max party would have ANY chance of hurting a big T! no no, theres no Tarrasque in bg1 or 2, though it might be sweet to battle one in bg2: ToB...

Ominae 09-28-2003 07:18 PM

Ahh, so someone knows what a Tarrasque is, hey, i only saw this on BGDUNGEON.com (no longer in existence) but when it was it was one of the best bg sites there was, and in the MONSTERS screen it had a picture of a tarrasque, said it was ultra-rare, and that it could attack like 3 different people at once (tail, jaws, claws). But it would still be a funny fight for bg1-

you have been wailaid by enemies and must defend yourself,

'what, where? i dont see- OH MY GOD!!! WHAT THE ____ IS THAT?!!

"GO FOR THE EYES BOO GO FOR THE EYES RAAAAAAAA- boo? BOO? NOOOO!!!

Tarrasque- 15+6=21 HIT
MINSC- DEATH BY CHUNKS

Tarrasque- 18+6=24 HIT
JAHEIRA- DEATH BY CHUNKS

Tarrasque- 12+6=18 HIT
NIMBUL- DEATH BY CHUNKS

Your main character has been killed and you must start again.

LOAD QUIT

PS- Everyone look up at the BG and TOTSC LOGO at the top, how the hell did that mage manage to cast the MAGIC MISSILE in cross formation, it looks like the southern cross (southern hemisphere constellation)

[ 09-28-2003, 07:23 PM: Message edited by: Ominae ]

Firestormalpha 09-28-2003 07:27 PM

He's casting Magic Missile at a level that produces 3 missiles. The fourth is just a second spell coming on.

Ominae 09-29-2003 10:08 PM

Only Goriona and Irenicus can cast spells that fast.

Firestormalpha 09-29-2003 10:29 PM

Yes, and? You mean the makers of the game can't have someone else do it just for the picture? It's box art, not necesarily in game material.
