in regards to the earlier question posted by cloud88, i was wondering if you ever fought drizzt? and if you did, did you beat him? and is there any ramifications for killing him? you see i met him early on and tried to fight him but he quickly butchered me (i had no magic and all weapons were ineffective) so i gave up. since he up and disapeared after that, this question is probably only relevant for future games that i start. unless he reapears later? but anyways, is he beatable and if so, what ramifications are there???

<font color="cyan">Hey dude, I personally have never fought him, as I I couldn't be arsed.
There is nothing really to gain(bar the items), but even when I pickpocketed Frostband, I re-loaded so I didn't have it. I didn't want it as someone told me it was there, and I didn't want to keep it without me finding it. But from what I have been told, there are consequences. In BG2, it effects your game. I wont tell you how/why. Hope that helps, and if you wanna try and beat him, knock yourself out!</font> |

thanks for the advice i will keep it in mind for the next time i start a game. if anyone else has any experience with Drizzt, let me know, i'm quite of curious. |
First time i played BG 1 and met Drizzt, being the inexperianced and follhardy adventurer i was as yet unschooled in the art of knowing when to run. I ran into drizzt and watched him cut a squad of Gnolls to pieces and then asked me for help. At this point in didnt think he needed it and i rather like his two scimitars, so i turned on him with the impression that my strong and well equiped team would make short work of this lone fighter. How wrong i was. Within a matter of minutes he had reduced my enitire fighting force to small cubes of meat. I sat and watched with horror mixed with shock at the devastation caused by this one man. After the shock had faded i asked myself the question, "Why on earth did he need my help in dispatching a group of gnolls?"

My last party "fought" Drizzt because they were a mostly evil party and I needed the Reputation drop. That was the first and last time I killed him. Here's the post I made about it:
http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/cg...c&f=1&t=001892 I really wouldn't suggest you kill Drizzt though. Why? Because you can't kill him without being extremely cheesey. Plus, the items you get from him are insanely powerful and they will upset the game balance for the rest of the game. And, as others have mentioned, there will be consequences for this course of action in BG2! |
HOLY S%*T !! from reading your past message Darkman, it sounds like this Drizzt is a frickin fetchin FORTRESS!!
though, i guess the only way i could justify taking his stuff would be through "face to face or conventionable" methods. but, before that i think i would atleast need a hint to the ramifications that would be forthcoming in BG2. if anyone wants to elaberate, feel free. however, you should probably add a spoiler notice. since some people like to learn, but not be taught. SPOILER(Killing Drizzt)
' ' ' ' ' ' '' ' ' ' My usual tactic is to leave all my party at one side of the map and just go in with 1 character armed with boots of speed, potion of speed and plenty of arrows of piercing. and then try to keep my distance (cheesy I know, but effective) [ 02-20-2002: Message edited by: Daniel ]</p> |
Say daniel, or anyone else, do you know if drizzt stays in the same map area after the initial encounter (knoll fight)???
because i met him early on and i'm almost positive that he walked off into the abyss. and again, did you experience any problems in BG2, if (or when) you imported your character?? |
[SPOILERS ABOUT DRIZZT]
Why Drizzt is one tough cookie: Basically Drizzt is an army of one. He has VERY high magic resistance so spells are useless against him. He has very good AC so you almost need critical hits just to damage him. He is extremely quick on his feet so he can run yer arse down. He has a lot of attacks per round. He almost never misses. And he does a ton of damage. His only flaw is in his AI. You will only meet Drizzt the one time. He is on his way back to Icewind Dale (his home) but has just been ambushed by a bunch of Gnolls when you see him. After he kills all the Gnolls, with or without your help, he will leave forever. |
hhhmmm... thats quite interesting....
i wonder who would win, Drizzt or Elminster??? or maybe they are childhood friends and would refuse to fight each other??? |
Prob Drizzt as he wud run in an hack him to pieces before Eliminster cud get off a magic missile
|
true...true...
but what is elminster?? a thousand years old?? he might have spells or tricks that the sword coast has never even witnessed...but even if he doesn't, i'm sure that his knowledge is so vast that he could keep pumpin off an almost endless amount of spells. oh well...who knows? |
'OL Driz has a very nice set of +4 Chain mail... but only if you do'em in.
How my guys did it. / / / / / / / / / / / / The cleric conjured up lots of skeletons and one of my guys used the "ring of animal charm" to enlist a couple of bears, hasted the group and then sat back and pelted with range weapons. Buying back rep points at any temple is cheaper than buying armour or weapons. [ 02-21-2002: Message edited by: Rolper ]</p> |

BG2 SPOILER HERE
- - - - - - - - - - If you killed Drizzt in BG1 (or even pickpocketed him, I believe), the game knows it. You WILL meet Drizzt about 2/3 of the way through the plot of BG2. If you were nice in BG1 and helped him kill the gnolls, your conversation will be amiable, although you DO have the option to challenge him to a fight. If you killed him in BG1, he will remember you, and you must either back down and apologize, or fight him. He's not alone this time, and you have no chance to try some cheesy AI trick, or even cast buffing spells beforehand. It's strictly one party against another. P.S. Even if you win, the gear isn't that great, and you can't even keep it. |
thanks!
that's what i wanted to know. i guess i would have to try and kill him and his lackeys a few times, and if that didn't work out then i would revert to being a coward... and apologize. |
I made nice with Drizzt, 'cause I've read the
Icewind Dale books and had a pretty good idea how a fight would go. But my friend had this weaselly trick - he saved the game, and pickpocketed both of Drizzt's swords. Then the whole party piled onto him, and it turns out Drizzt isn't so tough under Marquis of Queensbury rules. Dirty pool, but it might help those of you who just can't stand to leave a map without killing everything on it Rikter |
<font color="cyan">SOS, you should have posted that in PM...IMPO.
Also, can I just say its really nice when someone asks for you by name in a thread title...</font> |

<font color="cyan">SOS, you should have posted that in PM...IMPO. <hr></blockquote> Yeah, I thought about it, but this thread has so many SPOILER tags in it already I just didn't bother. Drizzt's Boots of Speed and helmet are designated as 'non-removable,' so you'll never be able to get them, even from his corpse. Why BioWare thought he needed TWO pairs is beyond me. Where would he even put the second pair? (Hey, maybe they're on his hands, which is why he has 10 attacks per round?.....nah) Non-removable items are used when BioWare wanted to give certain people certain permanent attributes (such as Blur) without gamers being able to take those items and use 'em themselves. |
NICE WORK Darkman!!
have you ever considered...data entry as a career choice? no, i'm only kidding. ahh...unless you already are a...data enterer person. ahh - nevermind! [ 02-23-2002: Message edited by: knoj ]</p> |
<font color="cyan">SOS, its ok.I dint read it, as I don't/do not know what happens/want to know what happens.
And you need to close a font tag in your msg, that overlapped from the quote.</font> |
I did, made him mad, he fought the gnolls, I concentrated on him, he fights the Gnolls first, so he'll kind of ignore you, lash out with everything you have, to'ally EVERYTHING.
Summon, cast, whatever, you need to bring him down before you run out of gnolls, if you manage to have downed him enough, you probably can take him c.a. Sarevok level. |
<font color="cyan">Cheers, guess I have to believe you!!
Does anyone know of an article on the web concering this subject?</font> |
