Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-21-2005 05:28 AM

I did a search but could find no answers. I opened the bridge and got my 29k exp. Am I finished?

The only area I have not been to (I think) is the area behind the door with broken lock. How do I, or who do I get to fix it?

Armen 01-21-2005 05:47 AM

not by a long way

did you speak to the servant on the way in? what did he suggest you should do?

have you found the 'keep key'?

have you rescued nalia's aunt yet? did you find something worth investigating in that room?

(the broken lock door doesn't get fixed by anything you do in the keep - it might get fixed later depending on your character class and a decision you make)

in situations like this your journal is you friend - it will tell you if the quest is 'done' or not and sometimes has a bit more information than the talking gives you

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-21-2005 06:03 AM

Thanks Armen. When I opened the drawbridge, I read my notes but didn't know if that was all. I've only found 1 of the flail heads too. I do have the key but don't know where to use it. I don't remember what the servant said. ..havn't found her aunt yet. I found lady Delica Caan.
I've searched every room, or so it seems. :(

Kestrel Daystar 01-21-2005 06:50 AM

Have you been into the dungeon below the Keep? There are a very many series of hidden doors that you must detect in order to get to the places you need. Try searching around in Lady Delcia's room.

If you only found one flail head, then I doubt you've searched every room. You should have 3 flail heads by the time you leave the Keep (IIRC).

If you got 29K experience, then I assume you did clear out the basement. You found Lady Delica Caan. Did you also meet some golems? If not, there is still some work left to be done.

Delcia is Nalia's aunt. In her room is a secret door, and behind that are wo other secret doors. There's a secret door on Glacus's room, which the keep key opens (Glacus's room anyway).

You can mental dominate Glacus for some EXP I think and he'll tell you stuff.

I'm just in Glacus' room now. I cast charm person/animal and he turn blue for a second. He won't start dialog though. What do I have to do to make him talk before he turns green? I don't wanna kill him.

Zarr 01-21-2005 09:32 AM

Wait until the charm wears off and you should be able to talk to him. If not there is a ring in the keep that should work it's near one of the flail heads on the bottom floor. You'll need to wait for the charm to wear off if you use this ring as well.

SixOfSpades 01-21-2005 02:37 PM

IMPORTANT: There are three Flail Heads in this place. Once you have all three, do NOT exit the castle until you have done something with a forge. Check your Journal.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-21-2005 07:41 PM

No man, it doesn't work! When he changes back he just starts attacking again.

Anybody else know what to do?

ogreslayer 01-21-2005 07:51 PM

yeah, kill him!

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-21-2005 08:12 PM

Thanks Ogreslayer you're a big help! Unfortunatly I think you're right on this one. I've tried too many times.

Oh, when I kill him I will only have the second piece of the flail. Is that right?

Kestrel Daystar 01-21-2005 08:16 PM

Yes, thats correct. The final piece is in the Golem Hall, hidden in one of the staues.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-21-2005 08:33 PM

Geez, the SOB kills half my party before I can bring him down! How do I fight the SOB?

Jerr Conner 01-21-2005 08:39 PM

You patched with Baldurdash? I found Mental Domination or Dire Charm works better than regular Charm

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-21-2005 09:42 PM

Uh, I don't know. I put in whatever I found and that was a week ago. I only needed the ToB patch.

I did kill him, finally.

Jerr Conner 01-22-2005 02:22 PM

Baldurdash is a non-official patch that fixes a lot of stuff. You do need the ToB patch first though. If you google the term "Baldurdash Baldur's Gate II", you should find it. It comes in handy.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-22-2005 03:13 PM

Ok, I'll check it out. The room with the umber hulks is a real problem. Any hints? I may just be too low a lvl?

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-22-2005 03:18 PM

I just checked and I'm pretty sure I put those in right away.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 01-22-2005 03:18 PM

Try the cleric spell Chaotic Commands if you want to defeat them... or if you want to get around them, think of a conversation you had with a servant earlier in the Keep.

Xen 01-22-2005 03:20 PM

If you managet to get the meat then you can lure the Umber Hulks into another room and gain XP. If not, then you're in trouble. Who is in your party?

I can't remember that stuff! I'll check my notes. As for the spell, I'll take a look but I find the hulks just confuse my right away.

shamrock_uk 01-22-2005 03:34 PM

They're a real challenge. Death spell works wonders, but I'm not sure if you can get it this early in the game. Don't be afraid to cheese it - put your whole party in the far corner bar one mage who's chaotic commanded. Open the door, chuck a cloudkill in there, close door. Repeat. I'm pretty sure that Umber Hulks couldn't open doors with their big stumpy hands... Hasted skeleton summons would do very well to soak up the initial barrage of confusions as well.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-22-2005 04:14 PM

Ahh, thank you! The cloudkill did the trick. Killed 3 and I was able to handle the rest.

Oh, and I wasn't able to do the meat thing since 2 of the dogs ran off on me. Should I kill a Moose?

shamrock_uk 01-22-2005 06:16 PM

Wow! One killed three? I need to flog my mages for not practising hard enough! Glad it worked

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-22-2005 06:19 PM

Did the same thing in the last room. I still had to fight the trolls but that was handleable.

I have the 3 pieces of the flail. Am I ok to leave now?

shamrock_uk 01-22-2005 06:46 PM

I assume you've defeated the ringleader? Don't forget to examine the statue at the head of the hall - you should make a discovery. Then yes, you can go - check out the forge on your way out, then go and talk to Nalia by the palisade.

Jerr Conner 01-22-2005 07:23 PM

Definitely wanna use the forge :D

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-22-2005 09:19 PM

Well, I didn't use the forge after I got the 3 pieces. Nalia is with me for now. I just took the acorns to the Dryad queen.

Any suggestion on what quest(s) to do next would be appreciated. Preferably the lighter stuff. I'm still in the dryad area.

Kestrel Daystar 01-22-2005 09:39 PM

The only real quest in the Dryad Area is Firkraag and his Dungeon.

If you want some lighter things go back to Athkatla and search around, you will find some little quests there.

Trademeet is relatively easy. There is one encounter with a large number of trolls, but they can be handled easily enough. There is one encounter that is pretty challenging, but I managed to defeat it with a solo Bard so I'm sure your party could handle it too. Aside from that one encounter, Trademeet and the Druid Grove are pretty easy XP for the party - with the notable exception of the final fight. IF you have Tactics Mod installed, then the final fight is basically impossible to win unless you (a) put Cernd in your party and have HIM do the fight and (b) you do NOT have the "Multiple Stronghold" option turned ON from Ease of Use Mod. If you don't have either of those Mods installed, then Trademeet and the Druid Grove should be a breeze. If you do have those two Mods installed, you will need to turn OFF the "Multiple Stronghold" option and let Cernd do the fight. Even then, he only has about a 50% chance to win - but any other character will have 0% chance to win unless they use their trusty Wand of CNTRL-Y.

Happy Hunting and Good Luck.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-22-2005 10:15 PM

I don't have any "mods" installed. I only have the patches. I asume the other quest to find that guys daughter is not too bad? I do want to be in town for Nalia's fatheres funeral and Anomen to get his message.

Kestrel Daystar 01-22-2005 10:19 PM

Well I very strongly suggest that you do the Windspear Hills quest then, and go rescue Garren's daughter if you want a good outcome for Anomen's message!

--Kestrel--

Balintherlas 01-22-2005 10:25 PM

Ive done the windspear quest and anomem's quest but i didnt kno they wer related?

p.s. wernt u a drow warrior?

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 01-22-2005 10:33 PM

Are you refering to Kestrel Daystar's forum rank or her game character?

Yes. Anomen did mention something when the quest was given. I'll try to find her and then head back to the city.

Well, I don't know if you can use the forge after completing the quest but you can try. Just enter the Keep from the secret entrance.

The weapon those three heads make come in handy against trolls (yep more in the game) as well as a chance to slow opponents.

Balintherlas 01-22-2005 10:54 PM

I thought zhentarim guard came before manshoon, wierd.
Whats after manshoon?

Kestrel Daystar 01-22-2005 10:59 PM

Drow Warrior is after Manshoon.

Go here and scroll down to find a list of ranks.

Balintherlas 01-22-2005 11:13 PM
