Why does elminister look so weak, sure he is old
but is he still powerful. I thought he was really
powerful?

Avatar 10-06-2001 04:29 PM

Well if you though that was weak you should see the god of evil Cyric in Thone of Bhaal. He just look like an ordinary bloke. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...s/rolleyes.gif
It's not about looking powerful!

You are right so how powerful is he
in the game, does anybody know?

Grojlach 10-06-2001 05:30 PM

Well, there are no occasions where you can fight him anyway, or you'll have to do some serious screw-ups to your game (or cheat) to do so. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

There are hundreds of books on the Forgoten Realms, a lot of them about Elminsters adventures. He is practicly a demigod. If you go to the "show all topics", section of this site, someone found out what his stats and info' were. There is a ton of info' on this part of the site about the game. I learned most of what I needed to know from it. If you really like the game, you will enjoy taking the time to read it all.

zepher, take an old man's point of view. Elminster is one of those guys that is up there with Nystul, Mordenkainen, Otiluke and Bigby. You don't mess with these boys. Spells? Some of the spells that we (the player) use were something that they invented because breakfast was late.

If you want to get involved - try an undertaker.

No offense intended, but these are the (original) bad boys of spell rock-and-roll.

i tried to kill that one guy that has the
identification spell at candelkeep and he
sent a ring of fire and killed me in a sec.

SixOfSpades 10-07-2001 06:29 PM

Yep, running around trying to kill the Big Names is a surprisingly quick way of finding out who is invincible--and who ain't. For instance, in Candlekeep, both Tethtoril and Gorion are invincible, but for some reason Ulraunt, Tethtoril's direct superior, is not. I tried to kill Elminster once, but nothing I had did any damage on him. Someone once claimed to have killed him, but they needed to turn him into a squirrel first.....assuming the big E has 99% Magic Resistance, that means with 5 fully charged Wands of Polymorphing....you've got a 50/50 chance. Hoo Hah!

Of course Elminster is powerful--he has a pointy hat! See? POINTY HAT!!!

I think for a challange I'll kill Him tonight but reload when i do.
Am not sure how i'll prove it but maybe iff i do i might keep it to my self

Lord Brass 10-08-2001 08:03 AM

If you kill Elminster in the forest Little Dragon, and there's no one around to hear - will he still make some nasty deathy/falling over/expiration noises? http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Sixofspades: i killed Gorion once. I took my best fighter, made a MP party with 6 of him http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif, used oil of speed, potion of cloud giant strenght and draw upon holy might (that makes a funny 25 strenght) and attacked with them 6 at the time. I had to try some times before doing it but i finally managed to kill him before he casted that annoying lightning. I only got 3000 xp, and anyway it doesnt make sense to kill him as you cant go out from candlekeep if you do it.

- None of you has fought Shandalar in TotSC ? I usually fight him, its a tough battle and hes worth 26000 xp or so (the highest in the whole game), plus a very nice item.

SixOfSpades 10-08-2001 03:42 PM

Hey, cool. What level were your 6 best Fighters, Ertai? I pretty much got the got the impression Gorion was invincible because of a particularly annoying cheat he does: I noticed that, when you attack him, he throws a lightning bolt at your main character. Since my main guy was Level 1 when I tried it, that of course means instant death. So I sent my main guy all the way around to the other side of Candlekeep, and had the other 5 attack. The lightning bolt still killed my main guy. Now don't you wish YOU could cast spells like that?

Xanthul 10-08-2001 04:02 PM

They were a character that had beated the game, so they were maxed out in xp.
About the spell, it isnt a normal lightning bolt, look what i tried:
1.- Placed my main character in the Inn.
2.- Attacked Gorion with the other 5
3.- Gorion casted what was supposed to be a lightning bolt
4.- My main character died

I dont think a normal lightning bolt can travel through the town, go through the walls, and kill a guy that probably had a HUGE LOT of life http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif.

SixOfSpades 10-08-2001 05:48 PM

Exactly. "Plot-related" attacks seem to be able to do that, another exapmle being when you try to resist arrest in Chapter 6. I told the Gatewarden to blow it out his arse, and down comes a Flamestrike onto my main guy (who's not even on the same floor) and does him a helluva lotta damage. He lived.....through the first one.

Also, Lightning Bolts in general seem to be able to do that; they ALWAYS find you. I had a guy with the Boots of Speed walking around underneath Candlekeep. He stepped on a trap, I immediately got him the hell out of there, but he still got nailed. Annoying....

One of these days I've gotta try attacking Gorion with Potions of Absorbtion, just to see.

What about Leomund, Lord Brass? Haven't you ever heard of Leomund's Lamentable Belabourment? http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif That's gotta be one of my FAVORITE spells, and I don't even play D&D!

Lord Brass 10-08-2001 06:36 PM

I love you for it guys, but you're all barmy!
Attack Gorion?
Attack Elminster, Little Dragon? Just for fun?
Barmy! The lot of ya. He's got a pointy hat, has old Elminster. They don't make them with pointy hats anymore. People won't talk to them if they wear pointy hats. They know you're one mean bada**. Oh, and that you've probably got almost as mean a set of bad guys after you. Who won't like you killing their favourite target. That's their job.

As for 'Leomund's Lamentable Belabourment', Six', it must be one of those spells that came on the scene long after my time. I remember that Aganazzer's Scorcher was released in the hardback Forgotten Realms companion for 2AD&D. I wondered then if it would ever catch on (see, I made a pun - fire - catch on...no?). Unfortunately, AD&D went through a "get it out there now" phase, and I'm afraid that as much as I would have liked, the old bank balance prevented too much participation. Still, it was nice to see the 25th Anniversary re-releases. I remember some of them when they came out the first time!

BTW What does it do Six'?

Leomund's Lamentable Belaborment
Type: Enchantment/Charm
Duration: 10 rounds
Area of Effect: Two or more creatures
Casting time: Beats me
Saving Throws: I dunno

This spell must be cast on two or more intelligent creatures who share a common language. Upon the successful completion of this spell, those creatures can do nothing for 10 rounds, except sit down and discuss matters of mutual interest.

Funniest damn spell I've read in a long time http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Jafin 10-09-2001 01:14 AM

No matter what you do, if Gorion is able to cast that Lightning Bolt, you're dead. I edited a character using Gatekeeper and gave him 100% magic resistance and the Lightning Bolt STILL nailed him.

Ertai, you killed Shandalar?!?!?! That's amazing! How'd you do it?

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but it's been a while since I was in that part of the world. Who/where is Shandalar, and does he/she deserve a thoroughly good shoeing?

In ToSC - the mage who sends you to first quest. You can kill his daugthers in air-ship quest in BG if it makes you happy! In such case I dont think you will able to kill kim, he teleports you right away.

I took on Elminster in mid 30s level party by accident! WoW! He is like this really powerful Demi-Lich.
All he did was time stop and Imprisonment!
Didn't last long!
I don't think your BG1 party will fare the 1st round.
But that's neither here nor there.
