Re: icon sizing

Uh oh... I think I failed my INT roll... :D (I am still struggling with the miniatures vs. scale thing - 25 mm height for human miniatures, but 1 inch = 10 feet/yards for scale. Of course, the miniature makers sometimes made miniatures too big or small, anyway :D )

Philosophy, eh? Cool :)

Anyway, regarding ginseng... My dad told me that he was told that eating ginseng regularly prolongs life and vitality... but that when you do finally die, you die painfully :D (Not sure if it is true or false, but that is what they say, I guess.)

Re: icon sizing

My theory on scale (as mentioned above) is completely separate from miniatures and AD&D rule books. :)

My bachelor's degree is in philosophy. I actually have a bachelor of science (B.S.) in philosophy. :D:D:D

Painful death? Like your veins hurt, or you are destined to arthritis? Or, destined to die in a fiery auto crash? :D Not to make light of it, if it's true, it's a pretty big trade off.

Mmm - painful death as in painful death when dying naturally, I think. (Ginseng is not said to fate their imbibers to horrible accidental deaths or anything.)

Of course, I have no idea if it's true...

Philosophy... What philosophers did you study/specialize in?

Re: icon sizing

I studied mostly dead white guys, as the joke goes. :) Of course, there is far more truth to it than I would like.
My area of interest was the philosophy of language, culminating in my thesis on the Blue and Brown books Ludwig Wittgenstein. Closely tied with this topic is looking into the nature of knowledge and what it means to think. I've read lots of works on artificial intelligence, just not on the computing, programming side. :)
There are a couple of really interesting philosophers writing today that are worth mentioning in my short list of good reads.

"On Liberty" by John Stuart Mills
Ludwig Wittgenstein
Michel Foucault
Albert Camus
Goerge Lakoff
Mark Poster

Aside from Mr. Mills, I recommend all or any of the works by the others. Wittgenstein is the most difficult to get into by far and his later works take a different view on thing than his earlier works. :) Camus is pretty accessible, as half of his work was in novel form. Foucoult's writing are really on many topics, so some of his books are of more interest than other. Poster and Lakoff are still both very alive and continue writing excellent books. :D

Also, I added links above to my article about scale in DC. :D

Chee, I think I have only heard of Foucault among the people you listed... (and maybe Wittgenstein? But everyone seems to have a name like Wittgenstein, so I am not sure...)

I have a hard time judging which names are well-known, as I've been studying in this field for a number of years. :)
