But who allows charity and volunteer workers to do their jobs?
The same kind that creates situations where charity and volunteer workers will be needed.

Sweet.

OK, let's see if I understand it right.

Any one of the Iraqi soldiers deserve more respect than Mother Teresa - she gave her life to others, but apparently it is not the point.

Any soldier deserves more respect than Jenner and Pasteur and all the doctors and scientists whose work save billions of lives - but again that's not the point, they were just saving lives, not "freedom".

Any Nazi officer deserved more respect than the French men and women who struggled to protect Jewish children - but they were not officially fighting, were they ?

I didn't say any and every soldier, but I may have implied it. ;)

The soldiers who protect and defend with their lives are the ones I'm talking about in general. The coalition soldiers in the field do deserve respect for the fact that their lives are at risk and certainly shouldn't be compared, even if a remote sense, to the Nazi's. That made a good example, but was my point really so unclear that you'd think I meant the Nazi's or anyone with a uniform?

The Iraqi soldier's who have helped Saddam keep his people under his thumb and who gassed the Kurds and who mowed down the Shiites with helicopter gunships, I also don't count those in the highly deserving of respect catagory either. Neither would I hold those US soldiers who raped and murdered anyone. Just in case you wonder. ;) :D

Based on her life and travels, I'd say Mother Teresa risked her life for others on lots of occassions. The French men and women who struggled to protect Jewish children during WWII, risked their lives with their actions as well.

As to the scientific break throughs, of course the developments and breakthoughs that save multitudes of lives are deserving of the highest level of respect whether they risked their lives or not.

I didn't disagree with you in your earlier post that doctors, charity workers, or humanitarian relif persons who travel and risk their lives to help those in need are also deserving of that highest level of respect.

Is what I've said about soldiers really that unclear, or do you just disagree with it that much?

My point is that those who risk their lives for a worthy cause deserve more respect than the rest of us.
