on a personal note, I have used several compaq's at work, for various things, and they are utter crap if you want to do anything on your own, like upgrade components, or if you need to poke around to troubleshoot anything, it's alot more hassle than it's worth, a good Dell, or HP would probably serve you better in the long run, not to mention they have better customer support if things do go wrong.

Hmm...thanks for the advice, Morgeruat. Maybe I'll rethink getting a Compaq. But, its kind of wierd....both of my grandparents have Compaq's and they work fine....they are mostly gaming comps for the grandkids :D .

Well, I just ordered a new Dell. For what I'm getting out of it, the price was excellent.

Pentium 4 processor, 2.0GHz with 400MHz system bus/ 512K L2 Cache
256MB DDR SDRAM*
80GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive*
New 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4200 Graphics Card
DVD-ROM*
& a CD burner

All of that for less than $1000. It also includes, a keyboard, a mouse, and speakers, but we don't even need them. We passed up on the moniter. ;)

Right now, they have alot of free upgrades. All the ones marked (*) were free upgrades. :D

A really good deal, and I recommend it. However, I have yet to use it, so I will have to save my remarks for later. ;)

Compaqs are well built, well designed machines. However there chassis are a pig to work in. More than once ive been *this* close to hacksawing my way through to do an upgrade, but metal filings arent exactly good for your PC so i never have.

OK to work with, hell to work in.

What do you mean 'The chassis are a pig to work with'? I'm not that good with computor terms :(

the way the case is designed is horrible to try and work inside of, if you want to add a hard drive, of play with cards inside, it makes things an unbelievable pain in the rear to try and work with.

I wouldn't be working in the case of the hard drive anyways....if it needs fixing, I'd just take it to a shop to get it repaired...won't be that much of a problem for me.
