how do you add a constant effect to something? i tried to give some clothing some protective spells, but it will only let me pick cast when used. I'm also thinking about enchanting a sword with the soul trap spell, and using it as a soul gem charger :D

You need VERY POWERFUL soul gems. It says so. Right on Page 39 of the manual, under the RANGE description. (And I would have answered your question sooner, but last night is when I finally read the manual, even though I've been playing for a week.)

Check out the Enchantment questions post for constant item info.

Your item recharges from dis-use as well. Example : I have Life Ring that I still use and when I use it up it, it begins recharging over time, resting or not. Resting, of course, is the fastest way to do it though. ;)

Haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere on the board so far, so my apologies if someone already has pointed it out, but you don't need to cast soul trap on a baddy during the fight . As long as it's not a playable race (you can't trap those) and it's not summoned (which poof after killed), you can trap anything that's dead as much as you want. I killed a single 60k soul worth baddy and filled up 15 grand soul gems with its soul . Now you can't really find a vendor with 60k in the game but you can find a vendor sometimes with a nice collection of things that you can keep trading for until you break even and then start selling things to other vendors little by little until you get your cash. Or if you just have a lot of soul gems lying around and low enchant skill, you can trap a lot of them and gain skill by recharging items .
