Crom Faeyr and Runehammer +5

I agree with Memmy, 25 str is very hard to beat

Yeah, Crom Fayer gives you way too many advantages in battle. But if you mean an item that can only be found in TOB, I think it's the Purifier +5 (if you're a paladin, that is...).

id have to go with the axe of unyielding. one in ten chance of death, no save is very beefy and far better than just pounding them down to their last hit point. and the regeneration will save you tons of those precious healing potions and spells.

crom's ok and might get a nod just because it's a blunt weapon, but with all the STR boosting items (belts: 19,20,21,22, etc) and spells, an extra +2 or 3 to THAC0 and dmg is rather miniscule in ToB where most fighters' THAC0's are below -10 anyway and causing 3 more points of damage is laughable against those creatures with more than 150 hp (and creatures with less to do die easily even if youre wielding a mop handle).

Flail of Ages +5

Why? It is a blunt weapon, it can hit anything, even Clay Golems. It grants you Free Action, no more fear of Symbol Stun/Psionic Stun/Web/etc... It has a 33% chance to inflict Slow on the target, not as good as Vorpal, but it makes the fight much easier, and although some units are immuned to vorpal hits, they are not immuned to the FoA's Slow attack. Grants an additional 5% to your Magic Resistance.

Damage: 1D6 +6, +2 Fire damage, +2 Acid damage, +2 Cold damage, +2 Poison damage, +2 Electrical damage. Not bad for a one-handed weapon, and it absolutely rocks against Stoneskinned opponents.

I am surprised not many people extol the power of this remarkable weapon. It is frankly, IMHO, the best one-handed weapon in the game.

i know its from soa but no one mentioned black razor.?
deadly long sword (chance of draining 4 levels is lethal)
one prob.....only +3 no good for demi liches and demi gods yes?

Eldoran 12-07-2001 09:12 PM

Since nobody has represented two weapons worthy of some attention, I will.

Short Sword of Mask +5
15% chance to drain 1 level each hit.
15% chance to entangle the opponent for 24 seconds, no save.
THAC0: +5
Damage: 1d6+5
Damage type: Piercing

and

Answerer +4 (longsword)
Each hit lowers opponents magic resistance by 15%
Each hit applies a -2 penalty to opponents AC
THAC0: +4
Damage: 1d8+4
Speed Factor: 9 (This is the bad part :( )

Both are very nice since none of the abilities are resistable. While they may not be the best weapons offensively, they cripple the enemy as their abilities go off. When playing with a party, I almost always have one person using the answerer in the larger enemy battles... 3 hits and the target looses 6 ac, which means they and everyone else will hit a whole lot more. Pretty potent in my eyes.

The sword of mask is quite nasty as well. Its level drain ability is percentage based, so you don't have to worry about savings throws... Well the sword of mask isn't super potent, but its a nice alternative, and its fairly easy to get. Just buy it from the merchant priest ontop of watcher's keep, and kill the lich in Sendai's enclave. Most of the better 1handers are ones you have to delve deep into watchers keep, as well as the plot of ToB to get...

Since this is Not just about specific weapons it seems, rather what group of weapons to go for. Assuming you are a fighter, and want to fully specialize in the weapons types you are using, you should be able to have 2 groups at grand master... and of course if you are say a paladin, you can have even more types available since you can only reach specialized.

So its really more about combinations. Using Answerer for a hit or two then switching to say Foebane would work well, and you would have the ability to use all the other longswords and bastard swords you find in your career. I think Axe would be a good group for you to take, since there are umm 5 throwing axes (+2 thrower, Hangard's Axe +2, Rifthome Axe+3, Azuredge, and K'logorath +4) as well as the axe of the Unyielding. Azuredge can instantly destroy undead, K'logorath is a awesome thrower with a save vs death or knockdown and extra damage effect, and of course the axe of the unyielding is a very nice weapon as well...

I hope some of this made sense... Doesn't to me

lol, Flail of the Ages is one of my fav weapons! Its dual wielded by my barbarian with Defender of Easthaven.

Hmm... Lets see if people left out any good weapons. ;)

Storm star is pretty tough, K'largoblahblahblah is horrific with a kensai tossing it, The Answer is a wonderful weapon... Good against really tough bosses. Club of Detonation is quite nice for a club too...

lol, ultimatly, I say Axe of the Unyielding. Of course, I love dwarves. oh well. ;)
