Unless they changed it later, the effect vs fireball was one of the things that make it a super spell. I mean, the fireball is going to hit the mage no matter how many images are confused his enemies. Forget if they changed this in BG2.

Its a bit uncharacteristic though- untill the images are gone whoever is attacking will always hit the wrong one.
