Elminster is perhaps the most famous person on Toril, and certainly the most eminent sage in Faerûn. Nobody knows exactly how old this powerful and wise wizard is, but he seems to have been around for several hundreds of years. He currently resides in the village of Shadowdale.

Elminster was one of the first imaginary persons Ed Greenwood created for the Forgotten Realms. Bits of information about him can be found in virtually all game products, but the Elminster novels by Ed Greenwood are perhaps the most intriguing sources of information (i.e. Elminster: The Making of a Mage, Elminster in Myth Drannor, and The Temptation of Elminster). The Shadow of the Avatar Trilogy by Ed Greenwood is also recommended -- but don't forget to read at least The Avatar Trilogy first.
