Romances?

I've played through BG2 more times than I can remember and I have never once been able to get any of the romances to work. Can someone tell me where to find something to tell me what im doing wrong.

Romances happen with Aerie, Jaheira, or Viconia (male) or Anomen (female). If they are in your party, and you treat them nicely, romance language will follow. First there's the get to know you, then more in-depth discussion, who knows if you're patient what might happen? As a general rule, don't tell them to shut up or stop talking, as that will often turn them off (go fig). you will know your first romance dialogs by a change in the music.

Do you mean none of them ever started? Or none of them ever finished?

From what I understand (I'm on Ch2 of my first run through SoA)
you have to have an alignment not too different from the intended
victim, and it helps if your charisma is a two-digit number.
Humans, half-elves and elves can do any of the romances and I have
no idea about the stunty races.

If you use ShadowKeeper and check the global variables in the
rightmost section, you can see what state the romances are in.
They look like AERIEROMANCEACTIVE, JAHEIRAROMANCEACTIVE and so on.
1 means the relationship is in its early stages, 2 means it's pretty
serious and I believe 3 means it's over.

I can tell you that the alignment thing isn't a big deal, 'cuz I have
Jaheira pursuing my paladin (although 19 charisma can probably lead
a girl to make some rash decisions).

Currently in chapter 2 I've had about 3 exchanges with Jaheira and
four or five with Aerie, who was really quiet at first but is now
warming up fast.

You know, I think I misunderstood your question. Someone will come along to help - I got a ton of info on the Vicky romance -- down to full diagram of all dialogues from a kind soul on this board. If you scroll back a few pages you can find it. I cut-and-pasted it and the document was over 10 pages. I doubt they typed it all out, and would think they got it from a site detailing all the romances. [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]

I must agree that the romances are the most difficult thing to find the in-depth info on.

Okay, I went and pilfered past pages and bumped a couple for you. One is a link to a Nalia romance mod if you're interested. The other one (Viconia Romance Stuck) includes the hellishly long spoil that Kaltia was kind enough to wow me with.

I've taken Aerie's romance to the point where Jaheira and her fought, and I ultimately gave her to that loser Haer Dalis. I've completed the Jah romance for SoA, but now I'm ToB-ing and it's gone NOWHERE.

I'm pursuing Vicky in my other game, and I've just entered chap 4. You will note from Kaltia's spoil that EVERYTHING you wanted to know is available - so if she suits your taste do that one. I must say that if sex is on your agenda Vicky is a true find, very willing and able.

Just a slight correction elves can't romance Viciona she is a drow after all. I'm not sure about half-elves.
