How do I burn dual-layer DVD?

Hi IW long time no see,

I've recently got my first DVD burner. I've encountered a problem. I want to burn a dual-layer DVD in Nero 6 but I can't seem to be able to do it. Any ideas? Any good other software to burn DL DVD?

well with my Nero, it automatically detects if you placed more than 4.7 gig (standard for a single layer dvd). If you do place more, then it will try and detect a blank dual layer dvd if its inserted, else it will say that i need to reduce the data for single layer dvd burn.

I don't have any problems with dual layer dvd's while working with Nero either, perhaps you need a more recent version ? If all else fails, try Alcohol 120%, which, in my experience, is the best program available.

How is it failing? Are you unable to start burning, or is it failing part way thru?

Off the top of my head:
Is your drive capable of burning Dual Layer disks? Not all of them are.

Is the firmware on the drive up to date? This was a real problem for me once.

I've solved the problem later that day. I got myself Nero 7 and I burned all .AVI files one at the time if you know what i mean. They weren't in a folder like before. And it worked.

Not being in a folder shouldn't be a problem either, the avi files could be on your desktop and you should still be able to burn them onto a disc. Bit weird this.

It does indeed work awesome! DL media is still way to $$$ to be worth it IMO. It's kinda like the betamax... no one really uses it because the media per CD is too high.
