Can anybody give me a brief Planar Sphere walkthrough for a solo mage?? I am overwhelmed by all that - coal, golems, that necromancer, machines, halls, navigator rooms etc. What is the right and short way to obtain that @#$% stronghold??

Current level?
I hope you are level 15 and have Animate Dead, because if you do... this is going to be a walk in the park. |

Hey, I don't remember, but it is definitely lower than 15, maybe 14 or 13 even... I have got one 7lvl spell now, INT 18.. You do have that table, don't you??
The only problem I had is with that Taanari out in Hell... The rest is easy with 2 fire/earth elementals and mord-whatever sword ![]() ADD] I do not have any problem with the monsters, only with the process itself - where to go? What to do?? [ 09-09-2002, 08:13 AM: Message edited by: TaSSaDaR ]

Ah... you are level 14. Dangnino, less by one level.
Anyway, Golems are a piece of cake with Melf's Minute Meteors while you use a summon to distract them( Mordenkainen's Sword is very good for this purpose). For the bigger Iron/Adamantium Golems, they are usually stuck in their spawn location. You can use a Quarterstaff( at least +3 enchanted) or the Sling of Everand to poke/pelt them to death... but you may want to kill any smaller golems stuck behind a Iron/Adamantium Golem first. Clay Golems are immuned to bullets, but not to the fire damage of Melf's Minute Meteors. As for a walkthrough... here we go, a step by excruciating step guide for the Planar Sphere. Let's see if my memory serves me well. 1) You used Valgar( dead or alive) to open the door to the Planar Sphere. You have left him behind outside while you step in. 2) You are in a room( entrance room). You go to the room left of you, fight a Clay Golem and retrieve a key, some coal, and a golem arm from various containers. 3) You use the key on the locked door in the entrance room and the whole Planar Sphere shudders. Hey, hey, hey, what has happened? You may enter the room right of the entrance room, fight a mephit and admire the view outside from the viewing table in the room. 4) You continue forward and encounter some knights in a room( knights room). You chit-chat a bit and gather some information from them. You may fight some Sahuagin( or was it Kuo-Tua?) in the room above the knights room. 5) You move on through a left door of the knights room. You meet some deranged Halflings. You kill them. The Halfling warriors use normal weapons. Fire Elementals and Skeleton Warriors are immuned to normal weapons. You may figure out the rest. ![]() Moving further along, you meet some deranged named Halflings. A fighter, a cleric and a mage. You send in one hapless summon and watch in amusement as the spellcasters unleash all their level 7-8 spells on a... Kobold. You proceed to swarm them with summons. This is where Skeleton Warriors are good. They are 95% magic resistant. Laugh as they take on the Halfling spellcasters. 6) You enter a room and see an incomplete golem. You fit the golem arm onto the golem and pick up some more coal from a table. 7) You go up and meet more deranged Halflings. Previous tactics as appropriate. 8) You use the coal you find to fire up the furnances. You kill the fire elementals that come out to fight you. 9) You go right and find a room where there are many golems. Use the Iron/Adamantium Golem to block the door and use missile weapons to kill the smaller golems running mindlessly behind it. After you kill all the golems, search the machine in the center of the room for a golem head and more coal if you need it( you have to fire up all 3 furnances). 10) Use the golem head on the incomplete golem. Follow the golem. 11) Enter the room where Lavok is and defeat him. Agree to help him get out of the Planar Sphere when you return to the material plane. You may want to loot the two rooms connected to Lavok's room( optional). 12) Go back to the entrance room and exit the Planar Sphere. Just kill anything that moves. You only need one demon heart, but you might as well kill all three for Exp. 13) Once you have a demon heart, go to the room with runic symbols on the floor( the PS golem would have pass through it on its way to kill the beholder). Activate the four runes in the correct sequence and a door will open below the room. 14) Walk through the door, walk along a bridge, walk through another door and defeat Tolgerias and his lackey. Beware! His level is quite high. You might want to send in a sacrificial summon first. This is where Skeleton Warriors come in useful again. 15) Loot the cold and fire rooms. 16) Enter the engine room( entrance is at the top of either of the cold/fire rooms), go to the engine and click on it to use the demon heart. Watch out for the Clay/Stone/Adamantium Golems in here! Try not to leave this room until you have killed them all, or they might follow you... you do not want an unstuck Adamantium Golem to beat on your level 14 Mage. You can rest in the engine room to recharge your Melf's Minute Meteors if necessary. Just make sure all the golems are under the fog of war and wait for 6 seconds to pass first. 17) Go back to Lavok and agree to take him out. 18) Lavok sees the sun, gives you the Planar Sphere and dies. 19) Go back inside and agree to help the knights get back home... your stronghold quests begins now. |

My trouble was that I didnt want to bother with Lavok and simply thrown in lots of cloudkills (the tactic tested on those Cowleds) so now Lavok is lying on the floor, "Near Death", hostile and showing no sign of life... He does not speak.
By the way, in one of the cooridors btw rooms, on the floor there is a trap, which kills always, through stoneskin and mirror images (tried 10-12 times, then just sacrifised my familiar; summons do not trigger the trap). What would be the way to pass it without such a sacrifice?? And, thanks for the advice ![]() [ 09-09-2002, 08:59 AM: Message edited by: TaSSaDaR ]

Heh... I usually sic a Skeleton Warrior on Lavok. Poor guy never stood a chance... ...
As for the trap, what does your message box say? What is the animation of the trap effects? If it is a spell trap, Spell Immunity comes to mind. |

The animation - like instant death in dreams - my char just falls on his back. And I cannot access the message box - the game immediately wants me to quit/reload... The animation is as though I was hit with a dart/arrow - no spells at all. Normally that had to fall off with a stoneskin, but nope!

Hmmmm... odd. Mirror Image should settle that trap. You can try Spell Immunity:Necromancy or Alteration in conjunction with Mirror Image, and throw in a Spell Deflection( or a minor one) as well.

Finally I just Dimensoion-Doored to the other side of the trap, reloading the sacrifice save, so no stats lost occured. But no protections worked, and 10 tries with that Mirror Image which all failed show that the trap is something insta-death Irenicus-ish one
![]() And is there any way to access the log bar after death?
