Well, the results are finally in and the winner is.......

1 Churchill 27.9%

2 Brunel 24.1%

3 Diana 14.2%

4 Shakespeare 6.9%

4 Darwin 6.9%

6 Newton 5.2%

7 Elizabeth I 4.5%

8 Lennon 4.3%

9 Nelson 3.1%

10Cromwell 2.9%

Ive got no problem with the first two but I'm amazed that Diana managed third place, after all at the end of the day what did she do for Britain?

Well, I think it might have been a popularity thing in her case. But I guess I'd agree with you there!

Bah Humbug! Brunel was a showman really. He built lots of stuff, sure, but he is most famous for his shameless self-publicising. Thats the only reason people really remember him. An equivalent from our age might be Norman Foster crossed with Richard Branson, or something along those lines. And I've already made my views on Churchill clear elsewhere... mutter mutter grumble grumble...

Diana and John Lennon both made the list because of their pop culture status, and 50-100 years from now I can't imagine them still being there.
