Hehehe,

the goal of my game was to have a cool kensai>mage. I thought, wow,
you really have to gain levels to be able to dual and I didnt got the
option to dual. Then I read SixOSpades guide and found out that I
need to be human, and Im an Elf. So im gonna start a new game
(despite the progress I made ). Now I wanna know at what level
should I dual. Could you give me some explaination of why this level
why that level. I still want a powerfull fighter, but also a good
mage. I dont want to dual to quickly so that my kensai suffers from
it.

Another thing about the EXP cap. How will that feature interfere with
my character. Will I be able to get a reasonably powerfull
kensai>mage or will he suffer greatly because of the EXP cap. And for
that matter, is a pure character better/stronger than a
dual/multiclassed one?

Im beginning to understand why its not such a bad idea to spend an
hour or two just creating a char. In the end, it can save you a lot
of time...

Kind Regards, Zuvio.

Lucky for you, this question has been asked and debated a whole lot of times ....
End results; if you have:
SoA dual at lvl 9
ToB dual at lvl 13

The reasons you choose these lvls are because of convenient weapons speed factor reductions, extra attacks, and more profiency slots.
I dont know the exact bonusses, but you can rest assured these lvls are highly recommended to dual at.

You also have to consider which lvl your mage 'll be able to attain, after he's dualled ( especially in ToB ... earlier dual gets more 9th lvl spell slots) , i definetly like lvl 13 for ToB ... playing a kensai-mage lvl 13/12 at the moment,. solo . and he's kicking but !!
(heheh, im lvl 12 mage, and havent casted a single spell yet, i gotta try to switch the kensai-style off )

P.s. In order to be able to dual, your PC has to meet the minimal requirements of both classes i think .. make sure that's the case.
( my kensai couldnt dual to mage, because his strenght was 14, not 15)

Zzzz... zzz... not another Kensai->Mage thread. At this rate, Ziroc might as well remove the search function, since nobody seems to be using it... ...

Cynicism aside...

I assume you have gathered most of the basic information for Dualclassing from SixOfSpades' thread, but for your benefit, I will repeat some of them.

In order to dualclass from a Kensai to a Mage, your character needs to be Human and have the following attributes,

15 STR( because he/she is a Kensai)
17 INT( because he/she wants to be a Mage)

Now comes the next part, when to dual? This depends largely on whether you have ToB installed or not.

Without ToB:
--------

Some people advocate that you dual immediately at the start of the game when you are level 7. While this is okay, it will mean you have sacrificed maximum efficiency due to lack of patience. Wait until you have reached level 9 to get the extra weapon proficiency and benefit fully from your Fighter Hp gains.

Assuming level 9, you will be able to attain level 17 for your Mage class. What about if you dual at level 7? *GASP!* You can only attain level 17 as well! Meaning... there are no long-term benefits for dualling at level 7.

Also note that a pureclass Mage can only attain level 17 under the SoA Xp Cap. So you do not lose any spell slots at all.

With ToB
--------

With a higher Xp Cap, and less progression at the higher levels, there is more incentive to wait a while longer before you dual your Kensai. Level 13 is the recommended level, since you gain an additional 1/2 attack and better saving throws.

Therefore, your Mage class can attain level 28. A pureclass Mage can attain level 31, but you do not lose out on any spell slots however( unless the ToB manaul is wrong), since Mages do not gain additional spell slots from level 28 to level 31.

If you dual at level 15 however, you will lose out on one level 7 and 9 spell slot each, since you will only be able to attain level 26 in your Mage class. Not worth the additional weapon proficiency in my opinion.

Lastly
----

Whether a pureclass, multiclass or dualclass is 'stronger', depends on what you plan in mind.

Man...why bother using a Kensai>Mage? ok, they are powerful and all but why dont u try to make a unique characer that fits ur personality, the game will be so much fun... too many people r using KMs and i find it boring....

niways went kinda off topic...
when I used a KM i dualled at lv.9... lv.9 seems to be appropriate to dual class...

PEACE

Ironically, I have yet to play a Kensai->Mage, but I have read soooo many threads about the topic that whether I liked it or not, the information got burnt into my head.

I prefer playing pureclassed characters, as you can tell from my signature.

Well, if any time soon I get my pic up and running, you'll see why I LOOOOOVE the Kensai>Mage dualclass. We all know him and we all like him.

Well, I played my Kensai through, imported him to a new game and dualed him to a mage at level 39 (what a freakazoid). Needless to say I had to import him to new games and level him up to a level 40 mage before he regained his Kensai abilities. Best killing machine I have had in the game. I probably had the most fun with my dual bounty hunter/mage and Monk though.

If you want to dual class your kensai into a mage at lvl 13, which proficiencies should you invest? I haven't played that dual-class and i'm very interested now.I currently have the TOB expansion installed?
