A Russian convoy, including the Russian Ambassador, has been attacked whilst fleeing from Baghdad. The Russians announced yesterday that the remnants of thier embassy staff would be leaving today.

Now, now be nice - it was in the European section - not the Middle East.
Curious as to why it was buried there.

Well, perhaps this is like the French embassy that *accidently* got bombed when we bombed Libya - widely believed to be "quid pro quo" retribution for refusal to allow the US to fly over French air space.

(best Sam Kinnison voice) Oooops, tee he. Now, roll over.

Donut - point taken.
Charlie - Is there a reason for bumping every thread?

For all, here's an update:

Russian envoys 'caught in crossfire'
A convoy of Russian diplomatic cars shot at while leaving Baghdad was caught in crossfire between US and Iraqi forces, a Russian TV journalist travelling with the convoy has said.
Alexander Minakov, speaking from the Iraqi-Jordanian border, said the convoy was passing Iraqi positions on the edge of the city when it came under heavy fire.

He said the Iraqis were shelled by coalition forces and returned fire.

It is not clear whether the shots that hit the convoy came from US or Iraqi forces, but Russian media reported that two bullets from the stomach of one victim came from an M-16 semi-automatic assault rifle, used by US marines.

The US and Iraqi ambassadors in Moscow were summoned to the Foreign Ministry following the incident.

The matter is expected to be raised with US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, who has arrived in Moscow for talks with top Russian officials to be held on Monday.

Accidents happen I guess - but I'm curious as to whether the convoy informed both sides of their route and departure time. It appears not - and if they didn't, then they only have themselves to blame...
