Regarding the Imp Legion armor from Darius, Do I just have to wear this when I talk to him or do I have to have it on when I do the whole quest? Will it count if I already have a piece on but it is a different piece than what he gave me? Will he still recognize it if I enchant it?

You can wear any other armour you want. You just need to wear the armour given to you by him when you want to talk to him or any other imperial legionaire. Don't worry though you won't need to wear the armour again when you are higher rank.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Taking his armour, selling it, buying similar, but light, armour and trying to do missions. He doesn't accept it and you can't get the old duds back.

Not any! IIRC, it must be iron, imperial chain, imperial steel, or Lord's Mail. You need to wear a cuirass, the other pieces of armor aren't essential. You can wear what you want including not wearing any other pieces of armor.
