The geomancers chase me from Arnika to Trynton before they give up. They are part of a horde of nine juggernauts, eight soldier ants, a queen ant, six greater seekers, and a lesser earth elemental. The other beasts are dangerous, but the geomancers are far more deadly. I have not yet learned one of the most important buffs in the game (elemental shield) and I am at the mercy of their level 15 spells.

Ironman/expert is a dangerous place to be. At level eleven/twelve I still spend a lot of time running with my four character party.

Geomancer casts crush - Marian takes 98 damage.

Great. That more than doubles her hit point total.

"She was a bonnie lass, and Hell take ye who killed her!" my lizardman samurai shouts. It is a solemn moment indeed as we resurrect Marian, especially given that we are using my last resurrection powder. It would be even more solemn yet if I realized that Croc would have no more ressurection powders to sell me.

We fight our way through the swamp to RFS-81. I am hoping he will have a few shurikens or throwing daggers on him. My ninja has been without ammunition for several days now. But he is completely unequipped. I am sorry to leave him standing there. In the past he has always been a valuable ally.

I have no resurrection powder left. Between me and Arnika is the geomancer's horde (unless they unspawned). Ahead of me is Marten's bluff. I lean back in my chair to ponder the options. Tempus, the monk, opines something about silence being golden. No one really wants to hear it.

I have no choice. I cannot go back through the Geomancer's malestorm of magic. There is no road but the one that lies before my feet. Onward through the Mines and Marten's Bluff. To whatever end awaits me.

Many items in a merchant's inventory show up randomly. You may be able to get some powders from Crock by sleeping 24 hours (the turnover time) in Crock's place. I usually camp in the corner near his counter. Nothing ever came in after us.

Then save before you talk to him; inventory is chosen at that moment. If you don't see what you want, restore and try again.

P.S. Are you in the medical profession?

The geomancers lie dead at my feet. "This one will no longer trouble us," Tempus declares. Indeed.

I've had a run of good luck. It began when Raven Rapax (the Rapax spy for the T'rang quest) dropped the Bushido Blade. To the best I can remember, it's the first time he has dropeed that for me. And luckily it's on my list of "permissible" weapons. That alone turned my ninja from a leecher doing eight damage a pop to a bona-fide melee force.

My monk has been a slaying machine from the start, but at level 14 my samurai, ninja and bishop are starting to catch up. And with this new sense of mastery (or at least basic competence), it begins to gnaw at me that I was mauled so badly in the Mountain Wilderness. My blood stains those rocky trails, and I find that the fire of revenge has begun to blaze in my soul.

---------------------------------------------

Sultan - Very much so. I think my wife wishes otherwise.

Nightowl - Unfortunately reloading won't work on an Ironman game. And yes, I am a spine surgeon in training (year four of six).

Urk...one forgets that Ironman means no reloads For all that, you can just snooze another 24 hours if the merchant doesn't have what you want. There's no time limit involved here.

But it's good to see that your doughty band continues on in triumph. Though I must say, the more I read about it, the more I'm glad I don't do Ironman
