How do i get the gate open at the back of martins bluff to get at the idol. I have finished the game 3 times yet never remember having a problem opening this gate.

Finding the lever is not easy. If you can find the T'Rang transporter room, and keep the T'Rang on your side, you can find it by going down one of the two directions in the hall there and wandering around.
