I currently have a Priest and a Mage in my party, and my party is around level 13. So far, they have both been critical throughout the game, but I'm starting to wonder if I should change classes. Here's what I'm thinking... please offer any feedback or suggestions.

- The Priest has the main spells that I want, with the exception of maybe one or two. In about three levels from now, she will qualify to become a Fighter or a Lord. That would be good because then she could be a better fighter, and wouldn't have to stand around waiting to heal everyone since Priests don't have too many offensive speels. However, by that point she would already be level 16 and wouldn't level up much after that.

- The Mage has great spells and there's really only one reason why I'm even considering changing classes. Her hit points are pitiful!!! (not that it's surprising, being a mage) I'm just afraid that I'll get towards the end of the game and have to keep reloading because she keeps getting taken out by one or two powerful spells.

Feel free to share your thoughts...

Thanks.

Wait 'til level 18 (you probably do not have the minimum stat requirements yet anyway)

Be sure to have 3 spell picks available when you reach level 18.

At level 19, class change, Priest to Lord and Mage to Samurai.

just remember in this game, a priest isn't supposed to do anything but buff and keep everyone healthy. so if you are at a point where that's useless to you, then switching is a good idea.

you really might want to keep her a priestess until she gets her top level spells tho. unless you have gone thru the game this quickly and have a handle on the last part's enemies and their horrific area attacks. imho, that's when you really absolutely need her. after all, its all geared to prepare your team for that last push.

as for the mage. the HP thing isn't a real biggie for me, because i always keep her well protected and far away from baddies. having no HPs is not a problem, ever, for me. esp since it can easily be offset by SPD/DEX/SNS. being hyper sonic fast, no one can lay a hand on her. that's why a faerie mage is one of the absolute best class/race combos!

concentrating on all the mage's strong points, and keeping her FAST is essential. but that is something that needs to be focussed on from the start. by level 10, a faerie mage will be getting her Expert Skills and with good Speed, she's always first to do her thing. disabling is a great tactic. nothing quite like having her make every baddie in sight go insane. all you gotta do is sit back and laugh while they all kill each other off. as she and the baddies get higher in levels, her group spells get even more phenomenal.

anyway, there's a zillion ways to develop your chars, and work in class changes. just don't sell your chars short. there's periods where it seems like ALL classes aren't developing. patience thru those few levels usually pays off very well.

you should go to jandrall's site, and read up on all the treatises on developing different char classes that have been written by Merkin, Atlus Seven and Boscher. essential reading!

The other option is to switch one or both to Bishops which get at least a little bit better armor and a lot more spells.

I have a Priest and a Mage too. My priest is using the
Vampire Chain and a Brimstone Shield(AC +2, Shield +10,
20 percent vs. Fire). He was using the Cat'o Nine Tails
before the Vampire Chain. These are extended range
weapons which can hit from the back row. He now hits 2 times
per round and I have pumped his Shield +3 every Level Up
for some time now. My Mage is using the Staff of Doom(2-Handed,
cursed, HP Drain -1)which is also an extended weapon. She not
only gets 2 hits per round, but she gets more critical hits
than I thought possible for her. For better protection she
wears 2 Amulet of Healings(also to offset the HP drain from
the Staff of Doom). Both characters do decent damage.
I just had to start pumping up their Strength after their other attributes were taken care of. My front line has a Lord, a Ninja,
and a Samurai. My Bard uses the Strong Bow with Mystic Arrows.
I have his Vitality up +25 from magic items and his Strength
up from the Ring of the Road(so he can use the Strong Bow).
I use as many Amulet of Healings and Ankhs of Speed as I can
find on the other characters. Everyone gets in on the action
most of the time. Use magic, then walk up and bash their heads in.
Unless the Bard critical hits a couple of baddies first.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for your input, everyone. After thinking it over some, I'm going to leave my mage as is so she can continue to dish out damage, and I'll probably change the Priest to a Fighter or Lord when she qualifies. That way, she can get more involved in the fights using either a bow or a sword. Hopefully she can get Lifesteal, Deathwish, and a couple other high level ones before then.

Xanny - By the way, our parties are almost exactly identical. I have a Ninja, Samurai, Fighter, Bard, Priest, and Mage.
