(Continuing on from a message I sent to Bear Rune's error thread....)

Kind of bitter-sweet to see this part of Ironworks so quiet nowadays, but anyway...

I recently got nostalgic for this great game again and decided to try Darkside of the Sword Coast. After installing it, TOSC, the international patch and then the most recent 1.01 DS packs, I made my Chaotic Neutral Necromancer and started off adventuring madly into the wee hours. This continued for a couple of days.

Sadly however, it seems my rather enjoyable new game has been halted by an assertion failure which I suffered trying to get to level 3 of the Nashkel mines. I've never had one of these before from my previous 3 times through the game.

"An assertion failed in D:\Dev\Baldur\ObjCreature.cpp at line number 10806".

In frantic troubleshooting mode, I've since tried cleaning the cache, temp directories and two complete reinstallations, one exactly the same as the first (the reccomended option) and the last using a custom install. All to no avail, unfortunately. I'm not sure what to do next other than attempt to find another copy of the game! Some possibilities/Hypothesi:

- Some data on CD 3 is somehow corrupt (I have the 6 cd version...and the third is used for Nashkel it seems. Looks clean enough to me though...)

- Files from Darkside of the SwordCoast is somehow affecting the game. (Difficult to test really but I will have to join the ChosenofMystra forums and see if they can help)

- My dvd-rom isn't reading the required data properly/transfer to the harddrive becomes corrupt.

Can't think of anymore at this stage. If there's anyone still around who may have some advice, feel free! As it is, I'm tempted to just exit the mines and continue exploring the surrounding regions, although Xan would counter rather quickly "Our Quest is Vaaaaain".....

Cheers,
CerebroDragon

Can you uninstall DSotSC, then try to enter the area? All I have ever heard about DS is how buggy it can be, but the only way to be sure it's the mod is to not install DS and play up to that area and see if the assertion occurs. It's not hard to do, just create a couple of characters, CLUA them to level 5, and kick butt till Nashkel mines.

Heh, its amazing when there's a simple solution right under one's nose.
Thankfully there was a DS-patch fix that I'd missed on the chosen mystra forum. Its seemingly fixed the problem and so I'm back hacking and blasting away madly into the third level.
Thanks for the response though, Elfbane. You still playing it these days?

Oh yes,,,I'm on my 6 or 7th play thru. My current party is the PC with the 'training party' you play with in Candlekeep when you learn how to control a group. Quite a little jaunt!
