Aasimar IMO. Solo or no? I can imagine A) The Drow B) Dwarf being good soloers.

Oh sorry. In a party. I will go add that to my monk question too.

You forgot one of the most important drow attributes - Spell resistance.
IMO, spell resistance is worth the ECL penalty any day, for stat allocation and defensive reasons, even though you might not want your main spellbomber to have an ECL penalty. Consider that a spell-resistant drow (that also has a +2 to saves against enchantment spells) can bleed Wis for extra stat points without worrying overly about its vulnerability to Hold spells and the like. That means more for Con and Int, assuming that you are going to have Dex maxed out already. ![]() Spell resistance essentially gives you an extra saving throw, which is certainly worth it for a low-HP class; it's that much less likely to fall victim to AoE spells etc. [ 11-26-2005, 02:07 AM: Message edited by: Aerich ]

While magic resistance is good, I think it is more useful for tanks that spellcasters... you will never have him in the frontline to be the victim of spells, and AoE are not so frequent...

I think Human is best, especially in a non-HOF game

I agree with Klorox. If your Sorc is in a party that doesn't have another party member that covers the various wizzy skills, a human sorc helps out for the additional skill points.
OTOH, if you have a wizzy or a bard in your party, then feel free to have a sorc of most any race. Any of the elven races are kinda nice, for the free Bow feat. That said, I usually prefer to give a sorc or wizzy a xbow over a regular bow, since xbows start with additional AB bonuses that can slightly make up for the sorc/wizzy's weaker BAB. |

The Drow is the best sorc. Spell resistance and +2 cha is worth much.
The Aasimar is worth it for the +2 cha and the ability to multiclass to paladin (1 or 2 levels)which gives great saves (but makes the sorc a not so good talker). Human can be considered if you plan on not using him as a talker because of the possibility to have intelligence of 3 and still get skills for spellcraft and concentration (but any other low-int sorc in a large party can sacrify some concentration to get enough spellcraft for the elemental feats). The Gold dwarf and the elf has nothing special to offer but can, like any other race without negative charisma modifier, be good sorcs given the right stats and spells. |

I was about to say that exact same thing! Heh. Bye the way, a drow sorcerer can very well be in the frontlines. Slap him full of buffs like stoneskin and the fireshields, equip him with dual daggers or shortswords, have a high DEX with finesse, and top it off with Tenser's Transformation to create a monster melee character. Of course, you'll be better off casting massive AoE spells, but a sorcerer can very easily backup tank in a pinch. |
