When you expose Wylfdene for his true self, the camp WILL split into factions and the wyrm tribe will become hostile. So YES, that much SHOULD happen. What SHOULD happen is that the Wyrm tribe is beaten by the Elk (or whoever) tribe, for which you get a TOn of xp. After that, if you talk to Hjolldar, he will tell you where wylfdene has fled to, and what you need to do to chase him down.
I suspect that somehow you missed Hjolldar after all that action. HOWEVER, if EVERYONE on BOTH sides is dead including Hjolldar, you are truly hosed. If Hjolldar somehow got killed then you can not continue - the dialogue with Hjolldar is necessary to transport you to the sea of moving ice for the final confrontation with "Wylfdene". Either go back and see if you can find Hjolldar or RELOAD from a save PRIOR to that combat and replay the combat.

ooc: Go back to the barbarian camp and enter it search the areas near the entrance -- you should find Hjollder fairly quickly. If you can't find him, re-enter the longhouse and talk with Beornen and that might allow you to move forward with the plot.
Spoiler * * * * * * * * * Once you leave to pursue the spirit that masqueraded as Wylfdene, you will not be able to get back to Lonelywood to finish quests or to re-supply so make sure you're ready before setting out with Beornen.

As for those mages that you came across, they are one tough bunch but will give some nice experience and some real nice items. But get ready for a tough fight! (if you so choose)
