I have just spent the last 3 hours trying to take down demogorgon with my solo beastmaster and I have done it!! His infinite supply of stoneskins gets really annoying because you can only slip around 1-2 hits after the skins have gone before he casts another. I relied on greater deathblow to remove the Glabrezus, and had hardiness and 3 armour of faiths and fire resistance to block all melee attacks and prevent him from getting through to me with his dragons breath spells. I was managing to get him to a badly injured state but by that time I'd run fresh out of wirlwinds and my ring of gaxx was empty of haste. Everytime I attempted to run away and rest, he would be returned to unijured when I next confronted him. My final attempt was when I returned to Dedrie in the adventurers mart and bought Vailors Helm. Me and my simulacrum buddy then hardinessed up and returned to the lower vault. It took 6 wirlwind attacks from each beastmaster until he was ~Near Death~ and then the mortal blow struck him from my staff of the ram. Damn this was a nightmare. I was using the improved demogorgon patch from baulderash and faught him on no less than insane difficulty. Am I the first to accomplish this with a solo beastmaster? If so then I highly recommend playing with one on insane for the ultimate challenge.

Yes, it is really frustrating is it not? How come your Armour of Faith stacks? I thought ToB fixed that bug already? When I try to cast Armour of Faith multiple times, it does not stack for me; but still, very good job Jim.

Onward to Improved Abazigal! Say hi to Tamah for me.

Cheers Dundee,

I'm not sure why but my armour of faiths have always stacked. I'm using all the latest official patches for ToB and haven't got any 3rd party additions that could cause such an error. I cast hardiness first because if you cast the faith armour first and then cast hardiness then all melee resistances are set to 40%. So I can get 40% from harndiness and 25% from each of 3 armour of faiths. This gives me 115% resistance to slashing crushing piercing and missile which is a bit daft because you are healed when someone whacks you with a large sword

My latest if rather expensive tactic is to keep 2 rods of resurection in my quick item slots. Each rod gives 10 charges, and when you use it on your character you are fully healed. Its mega useful in the heat of battle, especially when iron golems can dish out over 100 dmg on insane. With a rep of 20 and a charisma of 19 (the charisma that gives you max discount on goods - values beyond this have no effect on item cost) a rod of resurection costs around 4400 IIRC, which works out at 440 gold pieces per heal which is a bargain to say my beastmaster has 250+ HP, and a heal costs 750 in a temple anyway. Once the rods are down to one charge each, sell and buy back. Very useful.

I think when I downloaded the Fixpack from Balderdash, it fixed the Armour of Faith bug. I cast AoF first, before casting Hardiness, when I was soloing with a Cavalier. This gave me 65% damage resistance.

You could have gotten around stoneskin somewhat, you know... I can't remember if Demogorgon is resistant to fire damage, but oh well... You could use club of detonation and with single weapon prof since you like whirlwinds so much... This way, stoneskining doesn't stop all the damage. The elemental damage still gets past. Handy to interupt spells if you ask me.

I'm not sure if your the first ever, but who knows. I've personally never seen the beastmaster as a horrible character for soloing. I would think a kensai would have a tougher time.

Aye Dundee's correct. He has 100% elemental immunity. I'm certain I'm not the only one to solo a beastmaster. What I'm wondering is if anyone else has killed demogorgon using the improved difficulty patch whilst playing on insane difficulty.

I'm very experienced with the use of kensai's and have to say that a kensai is my favourite kit. I love high damage melee combat. What would prove difficult is the lack of armour but there are items that solve this (shield amulet - ring of gaxx - ring of protection +3 - dusty rose loun stone - kensai has +2AC anyway - cloak of the sewers), so I may solo a kensai on insane next. I rekon it will be a lot easier than this beastmaster has been.
