What is the best way to defend against creatures with the ability to drain level?

Beyond the Priest spell, 'Negative Plane Protection', you can wear any of the following items, Amulet of Power, Mace of Disruption +1 or +2, and some ToB crafted items which grant Immunity to Level Drain.

also, an Undead Hunter is immune to level drain.

In addition, for a mage, the spell Stoneskin will stop an attack, hence stopping the level drain.

Boon of lathander will protect from level drain too, but you can get this abbilitie only if you are a priest of lathander our use the shadow keeper

Stoneskin will not make you immune to level drain, only to physical (non-elemental) damage.

Amulette of teh Sensate also protects from Level Drains.
Obvuious answer, kill that which levels wannasteal from you first!! Or cast holdperson/monster/undead on the bugger and give him a lesson in manners!

lil correction, only mace of disruption +2

There is also a sword that does it. I think it's the Foebane.

amulet of power works against lv drain....

my mage uses it and it works like a charm. it is so much fun to walk into a sawrm of vamps with stone skin and AoP and start throwing skull traps and sunrise around. they die so much prettier then
