Windspear Hills Identity Spoiler
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Hey everybody! I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how I should go about killing off Firkraag. I have a ranger, fighter/druid and mage/thief that I have played through the original bg with. They all have at least + 3 weapons. Any tips??? Thanks in advance, Moiraine Sedai [ 08-01-2003, 10:23 PM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ]

If your mage is at least level 13, cast Greater Malison and Chromatic Orb on the dragon...if you're lucky, it should kill him. If Jahiera can summon Fire Elelementals, by all means use them. Send them in ahead of you so that Firkraag wastes his spells on them. I suggest getting Keldorn as well...someone to use Carsomyr =)

set as many traps and/or glyph of warding near firkragg.
Then cast your defensive spells(protection from evil, defensive harmony, etc), and drink your strength and defence potions.then summon elementals and animals glaore.then talk to firkragg( or just blast him with your best stuff) and once his circle turns red, move away from him and sic your summons on him (now all the traps will go off on him). (oh and did i mention to have as many people as possible in your party to get a good start on pounding him wih their ammo ,before his stone skins come on.) ATTAck with full force once hes wasted all his death spells and dragon breath....but do it quick coz he replenishes quickly. hope this helps or atleast gives you some ideas for your own strategy. |

That trap tactic is cheesy. I hate it.

Make sure to cast resist fear as one of your preps before going in. Also, summons are definitely helpful -- spread them out around F. Ironskins on the F/D is good. Finally, make sure not all your characters go in for melee combat at once -- that dragon wing thing would knock everyone out and severely crimp you offensive momentum.
I agree regarding the trap thing -- very cheesy. Would kill the enjoyment for me. [ 08-01-2003, 01:14 PM: Message edited by: Borg ] |

Fighting dragons eh ... killed four, myself. All asked for my wrath, they did. Hmmm ..... oh, a solution! Right: caste haste, get to him as fast as possible, greater malison, then retreat, cloud/area spells work very nicely, so use lots of cloudkills, abi dalzim's horrid wilting, ice storms, i'm not sure about meteor swarm, as i've never used it against a dragon. He'll probably use a healing spell now, so summon as many monsters as possible. Fire elementals, pit fiends, etc. Then, send your fighters in. You should have already got the dragonslayer sword from king strohm iii's tomb, so that will help. Skull traps, magic missiles, chromatic orbs will all finish the battle nicely, leaving you to stand on his corpse and strike a victory pose.
(Spoiler) It's a bit annoying that you don't get a bigger reward for defeating such a powerful beast. |

The best weapon and one of the best armors (well, the main component), actually. The risk/reward factor is even...possibly even tipped in favor of the reward.

General Dragon Strategies:
1) Know Thy Enemy. Happily, Dragons are color-coded, so you know what type of Breath Weapon they use, and what elemental attacks to not use against them. Of course, not all Dragons will let you walk right up and see what color they are, and them let you go away again to choose the proper spells and Rest before you fight them. 2) Position Yourself Well. Don't attack from just one direction--a single Wing Buffet will knock all of you down, possibly knocking you Unconscious, and definitely disrupting your spells. Surround the beast if at all possible. 3) Use your Summons wisely. Summon the strongest defensive critters you can, preferably those that are resistant or immune to the Dragon's Breath Weapon (see Point 1). Don't use more than 1 Summon at a time, to make the Dragon's Death Spells less effective. 4) Dragons are SCARY! Resist/Remove Fear is usually vital. If it gets Dispelled, cast it again. 5) Be prepared. All Dragons have significant Magic Resistance and Saving Throws, so if you're planning to use magic at all to bring the beast down, you will have to overcome these obstacles. All Dragons have some Combat Protections as well, and your Warriors will thank you if you could find a way around these as well. 6) Dragons are fast. Hasted Dragons are even more so. Attain mobility in your thinking as well as your footwork. What Color is it? What will it spit at me? What should I not use? Red/Ruby: Fire Orange/Amber: don't know Yellow/Gold/Topaz: Scorching Sand (Fire again, I suppose) Green/Emerald: Poison Blue/Sapphire: Lightning/Electricity Purple/Amethyst: don't know White/Silver/Crystal: Cold Black/Opal: Level Drain Brown: Acid
