When shall I dualclass my fighter?

I will dualclass my kensai to thief, but when is the best time to do it?
I am not using any experiance cap removers since I consider it cheating.

Try level 9 if you have SoA only - Level 13 if you have ToB.

Personally I'd dual to a thief at from the Kensai at level 24/25.

L24/L28 Kensai/Thief. +8 hit/damage.
L25/L27 Kensai/Thief. +8 hit/damage.

I know it takes a while to level up back to the thief, but it's not as if you don't get much experience in the game. On the plus side, you will have uber fighting/badguy wonking potential when you do finally get to L25 as a thief (not too hard to do). Then we want the use any item ability and we laugh. Hahaha!

Dace is right if
- you have ToB installed,
- you have a solo character or a small party, and
- you have an XP cap remover installed.

Otherwise, you have to dual much sooner.
- If you have 4 and more characters in your party and if you play SoA without ToB, then dual at level 9.
- If you have 4 and more characters in your party and if you play ToB then dual at level 13. Delaying the dualling will bring you more disadvantages than advantages in this case.
- Otherwise, the decision will depend on your party size and the XP cap remover.
a) If you refuse the XP cap remover then you must take into account the XP cap: I recommend to dual in the first third of your XP limit so that you can become a dual character and enjoy playing your dual character. You can be sure that you reach the XP limit with a party of 3 or less characters.
b) If you accept the XP cap remover then replace the "XP cap limit" with "XP I can gain with my party". Again, I recommend to dual in the first third of your new XP limit.
