I am currently playing a Wizard Slayer in BGII that has reached 24th level in Suldenesselar. I decided to Dual-Class him over to a thief to get the Trap Setting abilities AND to get the Special Ability of "Use Any Item".
After a previous discussion in another thread about the Magic Resistance gained by the Wizard Slayer, I decided to try an experiment. I used Shadowkeeper to max out his levels as a thief (level 28 without Exp Cap Remover). This gave me 5 special thief abilities to choose from. I took - Use Any Item, Assassination, and all three Set Special Traps. As a Wizard Slayer he has - Whirlwind & Greater Whirlwind, Power Attack, Smite, & Critical Strike. The part that is REALLY insane, however, is the fact that he can now wield Corsamyr. This adds 50% Magic Resistance to his base of 65% for the Wizard Slayer class. I could then add the Cloak of Balderun (25% MR) and the Amulet of Protection (5%). This gives me a total Magic Resistance of 135%!!! Throw your puny spells at me now wizard - and watch me laugh in your face as I split your skull!!! For what it's worth, I agree that this completely throws Game Balance out the door. I think the "Use Any Item" ability is easily the most overpowered component of the entire game. I like to "power game" as much as the next person....but this is just ridiculous.

Carsomyr resets MR to 50% on every swing.
AND, when you equip it, it *SETS* MR to 50%, doesn`t raise it by 50%... so, you would in effect loose 15% MR from your Wizard Slayer base. [ 12-24-2002, 03:12 AM: Message edited by: LennonCook ] |

Also, there is a 127% max (IIRC) for any resistance, including magic .
Still has lots of potential though..... |

LennonCook - I equipped my Wizard Slayer with Carsomyr and then went into my Portrait Screen to see what my Magic Resistance was. With just Carsomyr equipped, I had a Magic Resistance of 105%!! I didn't actually add the Cloak of Balderun or the Amulet to see if they would continue stacking, but I assume that they would.
Dundee - Where do I find the Purifier +5? That sounds like my kinda weapon. ![]()

Bye bye magic users and take your pixie dust with you!
Wizard slayers rule! I'm currantly an 18th level sorc and am "cleaning up drow city" trouble is i am just standing by and watching keldorn and Yoshimo swing steel. I have not bothered to cast a single spell just the odd sling shot. I guess i am going to have to admit, I have no love for the mumbo jumbo magic stuff.

you get purifier from watchers keep. a side note: how can you have yoshimo in the drow city when he dies in spellhold. is there a mod for that?

In conclusion, you will have a constant 115% MR Cerek, but you won't be able to get this any higher by using other items whilst wielding Carsomyr. If you use the Purifier, you will have a *constant*: 65 base from WS +30 from purifier +25 from the Cloak of Balduran +5 from TMoLTM +10 from the Nine Hells +10 from the Amulet of Seradine +10 from the Ring of Gaxx =150% but will be limited to 127%, therefore remove the cloak of Balduran and use the cloak of mirroring instead, therefore if any spells do bypass your MR, the damage won't affect you! With Carsomyr you will have: 65 base from WS 50 base from Carsomyr All other items irrelevant =115% constant MR BTW you can get the Purifier +4 (+20%MR) from item location spoiler * * * * * * * * * * * * * Watchers Keep Level 3 (Maze), you need a lawful good character to extract the weapon from a rock. You can upgrade this to the Purifier +5 (+30%MR) in TOB using Cespenar and the Eye of Tyr. [ 12-24-2002, 07:28 AM: Message edited by: Jim ] |

Raistlin - I didn't have Yoshimo in the Underdark. I lost him at Spellhold, just like I'm supposed to. But I decided to dual Cerek to a thief because I had really gotten spoiled by all those traps Yoshimo could set. They made the difference in several battles I faced.
Jim - Thanks very much for the breakdown on the Magic Resistance provided by the various items. As I said earlier, I never actually used Carsomyr, I just equipped it....so I will defer to your experience (and to LennonCook also). Getting the Purifier out of the stone shouldn't be a problem since I still have Keldorn in the party. I suppose Watcher's Keep will be one of my first stops when I begin ToB. BTW...does my entire party "transfer" over to ToB....or do I just get to keep my PC and have to "pick up" everybody else again? Yoshimo Spoiler for Raistlin * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I read on GameBanshee that there IS a way to "keep" Yoshimo after the Spellhold dungeon. You have to Remove him from the party before leaving for Spellhold. He will then wait for you at the Coppor Coronet. When you return to Akthala, simply return to the Coppor Coronet to bring him back into your party. Now...this part is a little tricky....because Yoshimo apparantly dies from fright as soon as he sees your character. So what you have to do is Pause the game before Dialogue is initiated. I'm actually kinda fuzzy on the details. It may take a few attempts to get it right. The bottom line is this...if you can get Yoshimo added to your party before he "dies"...then you can simply Resurrect him and he will continue with you for the rest of the game. I liked his character and his skills, so it's worth the effort to me. I even have a game Saved where I've kicked him out of the party right before Spellhold...so I WILL be going back sometime and trying to add him back in.
