I can't get to the chessboard room in TotSC

I have cleared out Durlag's tower, killed the wayverns, defeated the cold, slime, air and fire elements (2x!) but I have not been transported to the chessboard room! What have I done wrong!? Is this a bug? Please help!

Have you patched the game? And, have you cleared out all the rooms of enemies prior to transport?

Thanks for getting back so quickly! No I haven't patched the game, guess I better give that a try first. Otherwise, I have cleared out all of the creatures on the level.

Yes, by all means patch TotSC! It is super buggy. As for the rooms, if my memory serves me correctly there is a hallway with 4 rooms on the left and one on the right. Did you clear all of the ones on the leeft?

Yep, I cleared the 4 rooms to the left and patched it last night...still no mystical transfer to the chess room! Do I have to kill the female phoenix gaurd before she "draws her bow" to be transfered? Or, do you think I should just start the clearing of the 4 rooms over again?

No you dont have to kill her before she draws her bow, it just make things easier

Do you (or any one else) have any thoughts as to why I am still not being taken to the chess room?! I am almost ready to give up but I would really like to finish BG 1 before playing BG 2.

Hmmm....was your last hit on the fission slime with a fire attack? If not, it will divide itself into 2 more fission slimes. Maybe you exited the room before you saw it divide?

Thanks Avatar and Werewolf, I walked through each room after killing the slime and stalkers to make sure I killed everything. I guess I'll just have to go back and redo ALL 4 rooms now that I've pacthed rather than just the Phoenix Gaurd room alone. If that dosen't work I'm just going to load BG II and forget about finishing BG I *sigh*.
