Are there any plans, rumours, hints...desperate hopes, regarding the creation of a Baldur's Gate III?

I would doubt it, since Baldurs Gate is a story of you, Bhaals Child.

Sinse that conflict ends in BG2 ToB, then they probably won't make another, unless its about some other child in Neverwinter or Waterdeep or something.

But if you want a same engine an world, Ice Wind Dale and Neverwinter Knights are great to go with.

I don't think there is anywhere they could really go with it. After all ToB already made it possible to go to levels unseen in D & D before. Unless it took on a whole different plot, though I think I read somewhere that Bioware gave a definate no towards that idea.

If you have ToB, read the first text in the manual. There it says that they planned to make a triology, but it became two games with add-in's and add-on's instead. Throne of Bhaal ends the saga, you fulfill your destiny, so no, there will not be a third game, unfortunetly.

That is so sad. I liked SoA. What happens at the end of ToB, Sir Exxon?

Planscape:Torment uses the infinity engine as well, its the best of those games IM(and a lot of others)HO. Neverwinter Nights uses the later Aurora engine and should be even better.Of course those of us with machines dating from the late dark ages might have some trouble with it.

You kill all the other Bhaalspawns, as number 1. Then you find out that the real danger is one of Bhaal's former prietesses, named Amellysan. She wants all the power for herself.
In the last battle, you kill Amellysan, and the Throne of Bhaal is yours. You can choose to either continue your life as a mortal, or you can join the Rank of the Gods.

A perfect end of a perfect saga.

I still think there could be some avenues for a sequel. Think in movie terms: the Terminator is melted down at the end of TII - but they're still having a sequel; Sean Connery said he'd never do another Bond movie - later he made Never Say Never Again; the whole new Star Wars series is a prequel.

Or think in literary terms: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle sent Sherlock Holmes over the edge of a waterfall to his death to end his existence as a character - yet wrote additional holmes stories afterwards.

Perhaps a prequel to the BG series would be possible. It could take place during the Time of Troubles and follow the creation of the Bhaalspawn and Amellyssan's days, etc.

I have IWD, plan on getting P:T and NWN, but I still want another BG-series game.

At the risk of stirring the pot -

While its true that TOB ended the Child of Bhaal plotline, that does NOT preclude the possibility of a Baldur's Gate 3. It just would NOT be a continuation of the Bhaal story line but could easily include areas we've already visited like the city of Baldur's gate itself and Candlekeep just to mention a few, with appropriate changes for a new story line.

hmmm, consider the possibility of a BG3 - set within the framework of the Aurora Engine and the NWN world.
