Well, if you want a good wisdon score, stay as far away from half-orc as possible. Maybe a pure human could fulfill the role nicely?

The problem with that is that you miss out on the higher levels of druid spells. Also, IMHO rangers don't get much better after you get the initial bonuses (dual wielding, racial enemy) besides the obvious of getting better fighting skills.
If you want a combat oriented druid, there are plenty of other ideas. 1. straight druid Boooring. 2. ranger1/druid powerful, yet overused. 3. fighter4/druid ditto However, I thought up a super powergamed druid idea (don't take this if you are a die-hard roleplayer): Monk1/Ranger1/Druid (human) STR 16 DEX 18 CON 18 INT 3 WIS 18 CHA 3 I had intended to add paladin or dreadmaster of bane levels to that (for obvious reasons if you have beaten the game, which you haven't) before I remembered that Druids are neutral. Oh well. This girl can tank with the best of them, dual wield while not wearing armor and get the WIS bonus to AC, hide in shadows, and be an effective scout and decoy. I haven't tried it yet, but I think that the monk's WIS modifier still works if you shapechange, so you can have a high AC polar bear running around if you want to. Have fun! I have a headache from thinking of the possibilities (or rather impossibilities) of adding paladin to that mix. Experienced players will know what I mean. Kitiara, remember that there is a limit of 30 levels. Going "half and half" seldom is a good idea for casters, since they get 9th level spells at lvl 17. Good luck with your new party, and pray that your friend doesn't mess it up! |

Yes, a human would do nicely for that character. No XP penalty, an extra feat, and extra skill points (nice if you want to short Int a bit). It may not fit the character concept you have in mind though. As BoB said, a half-orc does take a wisdom hit, but in addition loses 2 ability points as well. By my count, you need to focus on 4 abilities, so the more points to spread around, the better.

Oh, just a thought... find druids boring? How's this sound:
Aasimar Druid STR: 10 DEX: 10 CON: 10 INT: 18 WIS: 20 CHA: 12 Feats for shapeshifting, spells for buffing, godly mental stats for a starting char... So th druid comes, sees that there will be a battle, casts some buffs like Barkskin, Protection from Evil and what not, and then turns into an Elemental. IMHO Druids are not, as many claim, an underpowered class, and they can and will hold their own in a fight if handled properly, just like mages, fighters, monks or nay other class in the game. Oh, and half-orcs lose more than they recieve. They get +2 STR, but lose 2 WIS and CHA. Not good IMHO, unless you want a really strong starting character with 20 STR.

I'm all for druids (though I don't often use them), but I am extremely bored now of single class characters. They don't seem to be worth it given all the possible combinations for more power.
I agree that half-orcs rather suck, though a fighter4/barbarian Half-orc with 20 STR, 16 DEX, 18 CON, 1 INT, 16 WIS, and 3 CHA is quite the formidable tank. |

@BoB,
Why the the low str and con and high int? I was running a three person party before my current game that consisted of a mc Druid. I think he was destined to be built like this: Male Human Monk 3/Fighter 4/Druid 23 STR18 DEX14 CON18 INT4 WIS18 CHA4 Of course with this build, you'll have to do some level squatting to keep from getting hit with an xp penalty.

He's a kind of guy that is very skillfull and knowledgeable, and if he must enter a fight, he buffs himself and then transforms into the most powerfull form he can. Transformations replace the physical stats(STR, CON and DEX), rather than add bonuses, that's why the low physical scores. And that's even feasible from a roleplaying perspective! thanks for all your good advices, but I'm still going to stick to my idea. My aim is'nt just about making the most out of every char, but roleplaying and have them to win, and some weaknesses just makes that more of a challange and more fun.
and just a note: it's IN and CH penalties the ˝ orc has, not WIS. This doesn't cause any problems to me since all the skills I want her to have is WIS and DX based. also, ˝ orcs have darkvision. EDIT: does int affect the dialog? or is it just ch? [ 12-21-2004, 09:48 AM: Message edited by: Kitiara ]

Everything affects the dialogue oprions, even strength in some cases.
And I hail your roleplaying aspirations in the game, Kitiara, it doesn't seem there are much of us left.

Usually the two dialogue affecters are INT and CHA.
Good luck with your VERY out of the ordinary character. If you stick to your idea, use leather armor and dual wield long blades or axes for a nice fighter, and use combat enhancing items over spellcaster items, since you will be more combat oriented. If you prefer more of a spellcaster, then I have 3 minor suggestions: 1. Instead of a ranger19/druid11, I would do a druid19/ranger11 for more spells. 2. Instead of dual wielding long swords or axes, (this is preferences only) use short blades. There are lots of short swords and daggers that are fun to dual wield, and some "made" for the off hand (sulo's hook comes to mind). 3. Be sure to have at least 19 wisdom by the end to get your higher level spells! |
