Is there any reason why I should keep the red and yellow books that you find everywhere? Do they do anything important?, or are they just background information on Faerun.

Actually some of these "Red & Yellow Books" have really interesting and fun stories to read in them... my example is " The history of the Drow" and there are more...

But some ppl think it is really stupid to read these stories, but in the end you are the one who can understand and enjoy the games better.

Well that was my opinion... LOL

They're just background information, but as Ike said, some of them has fun stories.
And its pretty smart to read them to, cause then you'll figure out why things is like it is different places etc.
So I will suggest that you read them.

see ya!

As has been previously posted, most of the books in SOA are simply "filler". They provide a nice background / overview of the history of the Forgotten Realms and are usually VERY well done. I would take the time to read them - i think they add some color to the game and occassionally give clues as to game play. The journals that provide game play clues / solutions to puzzles are usually different that the standard historical tomes - but NOT always. Read everything!

One of the "red and yellow" books actually has a purpose if you are an evil character. Showing your contact in Umar hills that you are the right guy to make the Human Flesh leahter armour requires purchasing the Book of Zenthnior(I can't spell any of this crap).
