but...dont forget the other popular tv shows like sliders If you live in the sliders universe theres both; after all, if everything that can happen is happening then its kinda predetermined in that you would simply be choosing which dimension you belong in. |

I think we make our own choices, but what choices we have are usually constrained by circumstances beyond our control.

If there was not free choice Adam would never have picked the apple and we'd not be all living here...

Ah... but Adam didn't pick the apple, it was given to him by Eve. And it was the "snake" that seduced Eve into taking the apple, therefore she didn't have much of a choice either. Neither one had a choice, because choice just didn't enter into the picture for these two under the circumstances.

She was seduced. She had a choice to not succumb to the seduction. Or don't we learn from stories anymore?
(sorry about the adampickedtheapple part, haven't read that part yet)

Ehrys, with all due respect, just because temptation stares you in the face doesn't mean you have to yield to it. Therefore, there is always a choice.

I think that every instant of the universe's existance, from it's instigation to it's destruction, to it's re-creation, is condensed into a single instant. The illusion of life and consciousness is produced by time (itself a 'dimension' of existence) flowing over particular configurations of physical matter, ie: the particles that make up an organisms brain/sensory receptors. Everything has already been, even as it is yet to be. You are not really here, just as you have been here forever. Everything bangs around inside a jar of predetermined spacetime. Thus, there is no choice, just as there is no real thought. Your consciousness is the miniscule representation of a destiny that has already been played out to it's conclusion. This life you perceive is a hiccup of time reacting with physical matter. You are everything and nothing simultaneously. Death shall dissipate the fabric of your physical body, and thus negate the illusion of 'life' and existance'.
So, in short, 'causality'
